HTML Editor Question

I've been out of the loop for a LONG time! I can not remember the editor I used, if I bought it or used a free one. I just remember it was easy . I guess I'm asking for suggestions, please.

In a search, I came across "Page Breeze" and wondering if anyone has any experience or thoughts with this program? It's a free program but you can purchase a "professional" version which I may consider.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Jean

  • If you would like a professional-grade Editor, which can be used for not only HTML but CSS, JavaScript, PHP, try the Codelobster PHP editor. It's free and superb. I use it to code in every language I know.

    CodeLobster - Free portable PHP IDE with support Drupal, Smarty, WordPress, Joomla, JQuery, CodeIgniter, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, CakePHP, Facebook, Symfony, Yii

    If you want a basic HTML editor that is free and quite nice, try the CoffeeCup HTML Editor:

    I use Notepad++, it's a clean & simple editor.
  • Thank you, SmallBizWebsites & yukon! I will ck out Codelobster PHP editor. As I was talking to someone last night, it just came to me, sheesh! NVU. Now, lets see if I can remember the little bit I did know . Thanks, again!

    • I haven't used it, but NVU is still around and often gets recommended.
  • For me Sublime Text Editor is the best!

  • Page Breeze looks like a WYSIWYG editor.. and the code it produces looks exactly like that -> $#?!&

    tables used for layout purposes, crap JS code, useless stuff...

    However, professionals use text editors...

    Notepad++ (my favourite, with Zen Coding plugin) or any other text editor is doing it's job perfectly...
  • On Windows I'm using Akelpad which is free, extremely lightweight and extendable with tons of plugins.

    My Mac favorite is BBEdit - not free but powerful right out the box and has a great support.

    • If you want to hand code, Aptana is a good free editor.

      If you are looking for a WYSIWYG editor, try XSitepro (old, but still works well) or Xara Web Designer.

    • I like netbeans for coding projects, although it is a bit heavy on system resources.

      Komodo edit is a nice all round editor also.
  • +1 for Komodo edit.
  • Here's a List of a few code editors and whether they are free or paid:

    1. Notepad - Free
    2. Notepad++ - Free
    3. Sublime Text - Paid
    4. Dreamweaver - Paid
    5. NetBeans - Free

    I personally use NetBeans and I think it's the best. Not only is it easy to use but it keeps my work very organised. moreover it has several in-built code help functions, displays errors and suggests solutions, it allows you to view your files and connect with ease, and has pre-written codes, functions and plugins that help a programmer big time!
