Having a couple of problems with wordpress at the moment with a blog I set up.

1) I have set up a blog but when I post the post goes to domain.com/post name instead of domain.com/blog/post name. How can I go about changing this?

2) I would like to put rel canonical on the posts. How do I do this? Also, would I need to do this for each post or it there a way that it does it automatically for the whole site?

  • It all depends on where you installed wordpress, if you installed in the domain root you will get what you are reporting

    • Yes wordpress is on the root domain. does it make any difference that the posts go to domain.com/post_name rather than domain.com/blog/post_name both SEO wise and for usability?

  • you have try to do 2 or 3 things:

    1 - What I'd suggest is that you set up a new "page" called Blog and then set this as your posts page via Admin/Settings/Reading.

    2- go to settings / Writing

    and change your Default Post Category

    2 - go to settings / Permalinks

    and change the structure

    • Why do you want him to change everything? There is no reason to have it be his-site.com/blog.

      If he follows your instructions, the site will not work

  • 1. Wanting example.com/BLOG/postname URL - is a nonsense, unless you have a real, strong and logical reason why would you want it.

    2. SEO BS doesn't count as "reason". Plus, no seo discussions here - or everything gets deleted.

    3. Everybody should read the WP codex before coming here and asking questions. (And those trying to give advice, should do the same :p )
  • I think you can change that on the setting, try to check the permalink menu to see what suits for you.
