How to add another domain to a different hosting plan!

I'm trying to figure out how to add another domain onto my current account and get it up and running with Wordpress.

A few months ago I purchased hosting (which came with a free domain name) with Westhost and installed wordpress. I'd like to add two new sites - which I have already bought from namecheap. I went to Add On Domain and entered one of the new site names, following pretty much the same process as I did with the first, before using Softaculous to install Wordpress.

HOWEVER, when I add the name plus the wp-admin, all it tells me is "no data received".

What am I doing wrong? I would be VERY appreciative if someone could help me solve this.

Thanks,

Daryl

It's not clear exactly what you have done or are doing. If you give a link to the site, someone can take a look and see what the problem is.

    Is it cPanel?
If so, it sounds like you want an "addon domain"

From the Namecheap admin page you need to set the nameservers to be the ones on Hostgator. Once you've done that, it's a simple matter of going through the addon domain setup from cpanel on your Hostgator account.

      1. I don't have Hostgator, I have Westhost.

2 I have since done this and my web site is up. HOWEVER I cannot access the wordpress admin panel because it keeps telling me that I can't connect to the localhost. Not only is my new site doing this, but also the old site which I've been running for months is no longer letting me on the admin panel either!

You're going to need to check the URL's inside the databases to be sure they're correct. The "localhost" issue, sounds like the URL is incorrect in the options table. You can use phpMyAdmin to do so however, I'd recommend talking with your host. They should be able to do this for you fairly quickly.

EDIT: For the site you're unable to login to, the password may need to be reset. that can be done from the database side as well if you cannot use the request password reset link..

Thanks for the reply (and anyone else who replied)

However, it turns out that the issue had nothing to do with anything I'd done. Apparently the wordpress sites have been encountering a number of brute force attacks, so they seem to have disabled the normal logins for EVERYONE. I spoke to their customer support and they have since done the workaround setup for me.

In order to further protect against brute force attacks, I'd suggest installing Wordfence. Once you configure it, it will block most brute force attacks, as well as it will scan your site daily for problems and email you if it finds any.
