**EDIT just noticed it's not actually a 404 error - can't change thread title tho**

Hi

Just made a new install of wordpress on a addon domain with Softaculous and I noticed I'm getting an error message whenever i type in the address "mysite.com". It works fine when i type "mysite.com/" or "www.mysite.com" or "hxxp://www.mysite.com". Also, I only get this error message in firefox.

here's the exact message

The requested URL /nonexistent/ was not found on this server.
I've never had this problem with any of my other sites. What could be causing it?

  • Freemeal,

I am not 100% sure but it sounds like an issue with your DNS settings. Do you have your domain configured to have those different URLs point to the main URL you are using? For example www pointing to mysite.com? I would check there first.

Are your receiving the error in all browsers or just Firefox? Have you tried clearing your browser cache and seeing if that changes anything? Try all the obvious stuff first then go to your domain registrar and see if those setting are all configured properly.

    Best,

    Shawn

It may also be an issue with your .htaccess file if you are on a linux machine. If you can get into the wp-admin try going to the settings -> permalinks and selecting something other than what is currently selected. Save it and then go back in and select the one that you want selected again and save that, then try the site. Sometimes just having it rebuild the .htaccess file will fix those types of issues.

    Thanks for the replies.

I think it may have been a DNS issue. I do remember seeing an error message when I set them up, but I thought it had worked. Went back and redone them, and now it seems to be working.

    Thanks
