Setting up multiple Wordpress website using software

I'll need to setup quite a number of WordPress blogs and I realized that this installation process are all repetitive actions:
1) Install wordpress
2) Install theme
3) Install plugins
4) Setup Pages and text
5) Setup Permalinks, URLs, etc.

Is there a plugin or a software where I can create a "template" that already have all the above (ie. plugins, pages, etc) and all I need to do is just "copy and paste" to a new installation?

That means, I will still need to create the WordPress via Fantastico, I just don't want to keep doing the installation of plugins, setup pages, Permalinks, etc.

I will just end up with the following:
1) Install Wordpress
2) Upload "Template"
3) Done

I'll just need to manually change to a new theme and some minor customization.

Any recommendations?

  • I would make one installation that has all the above and use backup buddy to clone your site.

So create your install 1 time with all your:
    1) Install wordpress
    2) Install theme
    3) Install plugins
    4) Setup Pages and text
    5) Setup Permalinks, URLs, etc

Then 2 files to clone it to a new domain do your minor customization ...

    Rinse and Repeat

    • Instead of backup buddy, I would use a free tool like Xcloner

I like to use fantastico for fast creation of the database, and then Xcloner to install the themes plugins and so forth.

You may need to activate and configure some plugins that store some server and uri information/settings hardcoded rather than relying on WordPress's variables such as WP_SITEURL
