Uploading a website

Hi All,

I currently have a wordpress theme installed on my hosting account (Hostgator) I want to upload a website made using dreamweaver onto the domain name for this hosting account. Do I un-install wordpress first off my hosting account or just upload via Dreamweaver the new site??

  • If you want the website you're uploading to replace the Wordpress, then yes, it needs to be removed.
  • Why don't you convert that new design into WordPress theme? Easier to manage in the long run.

    • Best to uninstall the wordpress using the uninstaller in fantastico if that was used to install it. Otherwise you can manually delete the database using cpanel and delete all the content within the home directory using filemanager.

      Also if you use the first method, make sure that if there is an .htaccess file remaining in the web root directory that there is nothing between

      # BEGIN WordPress
      and

      # END WordPress
    • This is something I may look to do in the future as wordpress sites are very user friendly, I need to learn how to upload using dreamweaver. wish me luck :-)
  • You need to remove the wordpress flat form first then upload your files on file manager on hostgator dashboard.

    Dreamweaver is also have this function, it enable you edit code on local and updating via ftp account in Dreamweaver but I suggest you not use that way, it's very slow, you need to update via Ftp program with an account.

  • I uninstalled wordpress from the domain name in hostgator, I then tried to upload the files from dreamweaver but got an error message and now the domain name has a forbidden 403 message on it. Not sure if ive set it up properly, would I have to change nameservers?? I'm really not sure what to do now...
  • Just make the landing page a WordPress theme...
