Optimizing Images

WEB DESIGN

I just built a site with a background image. I ran the site through Website speed test and it seems to load at a good speed. However an experienced user took the time to email me to tell me the background image was slowing the site down and it needed optimizing.

So - how do you optimize background images (and other images) on your sites?

I usually do it with Paint.net before uploading, but there must be better ways.

  The best image optimizer I've ever used, by far...
  
  Image compression JPEG, JPG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, PNG: Compress images, photos, pictures
  
  Also, if you take all of your Javascript links & Javascript code out of the <head> section, and put it right before the closing </body> tag (where the Statcounter Javascript code is), that will allow your page images to load even faster. Just make sure that all of your Javascript links come before actual Javascript code (but put it all before the closing </body> tag).
