Wordpress sidebar help

Me and my friends are going to start a little ecommerce business and we have decided to use Wordpress, WooCommerce. We want a sidebar on the left side of the page and some categories there, we just don't know how to do that. We have a top bar and when you hover over one of the items in the bar, all the categories open up. That's just not the way we would like it to be since most people are used to categories on the left sidebar. Simply, we need a sidebar on the left side where we can put all the categories. I found a page where I can select "sidewide sidebars" and it's on by default, still no sidebars :/

Maybe your theme does not support a left side bar. The free Atahulpa theme has many sidebars to choose from. Most premium themes also have a range.

If your selected theme does not do what you want, why are you even considering buying it?
If you already bought it get a refund or consider it a lesson learned.

As Robin said: at this stage of your knowledge of XHTML/CSS is not an option to mess with the placement of the sidebar.

Get a theme that already has the sidebar on the left as you wish - if that's your priority. Or a theme that allows you in the "theme options" to select the placement of the sidebar (e.g. WP default themes).

For the rest of you with posts deleted: ;earn to read carefully the OP before posting!
