Wordpress and Web Design?

Hi,

I am about to study hmtl and CSS as I would like to start a career in Web Design.

I know you need to be proficient in both of these to build and design a Website from scratch and I'm cool with that, hence my studying.

But what I'm confused about is the use and simplicity of Wordpress.
Why try and learn coding when you can just make a site with Wordpress?
As a newbie this is what confuses me?

Also, in the future I would like set up a Freelance Web Design company. Would a client be happy with an almost ready made Wordpress site or would they want one made from scratch? Could they tell the difference???

Very confused here, want to learn to build professional looking sites, but do I study or just use Wordpress instead???

Any input much appreciated.

See! WordPress is now being used by millions on this planet and have been accepted by several big brands as well. Any web-designer needs to master Wordpress as such. If you are comfortable with the concept of Web-Designing through Wordpress then why not to start from here only.

I think it would be a nice way to use WordPress for website design.
You can learn for how to use it with some youtube tutorial videos and you can ask questions on WordPress.org to get the answer.

Sometimes you get a question of your client, where WordPress has no solution (or plugin) for. Then you need your programming skills.

WordPress is very usefull for creating good, professional and simple websites.
We also use Drupal as CMS for webdesign!

WordPress is the most widely used resource for web design. Lots of themes are available in WordPress, which can provide your website a unique style form others. It is one of the best CMS used for professional websites.

      Thanks.

If you have good skills on web design, join with me, we can make a team working online

Wordpress is very simple to learn, you only need 2 to 3 weeks to finish a course and you will design a complete theme, also make any simple widget and plugins

    Well, WordPress is easy...

But you'll still end up buying themes or using free ones.

Unless, you know how to make them.

And there's a big market for that.

People will pay big $$$ for unique themes/templates.

And people also pay for little tweeks here and there.

Remember 10-12 years ago, webmasters were charging thousands of dollars to design a website. Today, you don't need to know any coding to be a successful blogger.

Something you should consider is that people actually have to create the really nice, premium wordpress themes - the ones they sell on sites like Themeforest.

The user I purchased my premium wordpress theme from charges $50 for a one time use theme that has tons of options, his theme has over 1000 sales on themeforest - and he's got a few other themes for sale as well. He spends his time updating his themes and making more, I'm guessing. I'd imagine it's much more difficult to create such a theme than simply creating/customizing the themes on your own wordpress sites/installations.

http://themeforest.net/user/pixedelic is the themeforest user I'm referring to here.

Sure, anyone can make a site using WordPress, but what happens when you want to tweak it to suit your specific requirements?

If you want to change colours, layouts etc outside the theme control, then you need to know about HTML, CSS and probably some PHP.

Also, without some knowledge of what makes up your WordPress theme and plugins, you don't have any real idea as to whether the theme/plugin is coded efficiently or not.

Start with HTML - CSS then make your way up!

    HTML + CSS
    HTML5 + CSS3
    JavaScript
    PHP
    and more!

You can find tons of tutorials on google or even on Warriors Forum...

    Best of luck

Also web design is not an exact disipline.
For example, IM salespages used fixed width layouts. Business sites use fluid.
Im sites use pixels for text size, business sites use em units.
Im sites center elements alot business sites use left justify.

        My suggestion.1)Learn wordpress
2)learn how to use a css template
        3) be able to build a one page site using html / css.

HTML + CSS is important though... you may start using software such as dreamweaver later on but you have to have knowledge of HTML and CSS
