Wordpress theme advice

I'm looking to design my next site and I'm at a loss in finding an easy theme that I'm looking for.

I want the layout to look similar to these sites:

The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss | Tim Ferriss's 4-Hour Workweek and Lifestyle Design Blog

Confidence With Women | How To Build Confidence With Women

I've tried DIY but it's too complicated with the CSS and Elegant themes doesn't allow banners like the sites above.

Any advice on themes or easy theme creators is appreciated.

It's not EXACTLY like those but Woo Themes Canvas is my very favourite, go-to theme - check out the documentation: Canvas | WooThemes Documentation

Actually both pages look pretty simple, it is just a blog with a custom header and the banner in the sidebar.

That is a pretty good theme. Where it says "Canvas" in the header, can I put in a picture for the banner instead it having the text there? I find the text annoying and takes away from the aesthetics of the site if you have a banner.

  I like to use one of the WordPress.org hosted and developed themes as is or a child theme based on them is in my opinion the best basis for developing a website for any niche.

if you check out the latest free themes at wordpress.org you will will be able to achieve something similar to the designs you listed
