Building a Database / website / member site

Hello, I'm looking to build a website but wanted to get some opinions before I posted a wanted ad for help. I want to make sure I will be asking for the right thing before I post the job.

I have a collection of pictures and information that I would like to create a online database that will eventually become a member site. The pictures will be for research which will need to included some additional information once they click on the picture or link. I will need to add to this database on a daily basis most likely and hopefully with a bit of ease but would prefer quality over just easy. I am hoping the database can be searched through many different ways since this will be a research and identification site, people may only have part of the puzzle and I want to help them find what they are looking for. The database will also need to be added to a website which I want to make a member only site which will contain informative articles, forum, possible links to other affiliate sites doing similar identification or research.

Any information would be greatly appreciated so I can do a bit more research before posting my wanted ad. Thank You, Joseph

      Thank You for your fast reply, I do believe I could use some help with wordpress for my other site, I purchased a template for the retail side of my life. I sell jewelry mostly on ebay at the moment but purchased a domain name and the template I mentioned but it has been about a year and had several friends recommend people who never came through or I had a hard time reaching to get the ball rolling. It has been long enough and I am really ready to try and do something anything to just get my site actually up.

      Selling the jewelry is my number one source of income at the moment but the database inquiry I originally posted is something I want to work on as well. I dont know all the capabilities of wordpress but I didn't think I would be able to use that for what I needed as far as the database project went. Dont I need to use a program like access or filepro..ect?

      I would still like help with my jewelry wordpress site, do you know if I would be able to link up (real time) the jewelry I have up for auction on ebay to my website?

    Well you can create plugins for wordpress to make it do pretty much everything, although that doesn't mean it's right for everything. The way you explained your project it is probably better to build a custom system.

    Also, your probably better off not working with 'yestyle' as he seems to be a vulture offering his services when you are only asking for advice. When it is time to post your project there is a section in the forum where you can do that.

    As for the wordpress-ebay integration you might be able to find a plugin here: WordPress › ebay « Tags « WordPress Plugins

      Hello Andrew, Thank You for the warning, I appreciate you looking out for us new Warrior recruits. I do think I will probably need more of a custom program I just wasnt sure which platform I would prefer to use or which one other people have found easier to use or have more capabilities in case I want to expand or create something more complicated over the next couple years as this will be a work in progress.

      As for the Ebay integration I do appreciate the link that was perfect. I really had planned on using wordpress for my jewelry site which is why I bought a template just to get me started and overall I liked the layout. I will be posting a job for that on the section you mentioned soon. Just doing a little research and planning first.

      An example of what I would like to do but on a larger spectrum with more searching capabilities and more body to the website itself aside from the informational part. Online Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, Hallmarks & Makers' Marks (just an example, a similar type of website but far from what I have in mind). Thank you for any advice! Joseph
