I make my websites with Wordpress, but I am not satissfied with conversions. I know some of HTML coding and I wanna learn how to make simple 5-10 page websites.

What are the best online basic courses/tutorials for HTML/CSS out there?

I've been on W3Schools Online Web Tutorials, it's just too big, and wide.

    • +1 code academy.

For design look at brain tree - they've done quite good courses
  • try youtube there are many good tutorials
  • I will also refer to youtube , cause you will learn via watching a video with instruction and that is far more easy way to learn.
  • Maybe youtube is one of the best way for you to learn.
I also suggest you to find some professional Forum to learn about CSS and HTML.
  • I am self taught and have managed to do quite a lot with wordpress,
    using HTML and child themes.
I am putting together some free training. It's not meant to be comprehensive, more what you need to get things done.
You can see an example of what can be done at Colin McCarthy | Quality Software Products
  • Code Academy looks great. Interactive tutorial as I wanted. I looked many YTB videos but best way to learn coding is through practice and watching at the same time. Thx.
  • For this tutorial, I suggest you use only the very simplest of tools. E.g., Notepad (under Windows), Text Edit (on the Mac) or K Edit (under KDE) will do fine. Once you understand the principles, you may want to switch to more advanced tools, or even to commercial programs, such as Style Master, Dreamweaver or Go Live. But for your very first CSS style sheet, it is good not to be distracted by too many advanced features.

Don't use a word processor, such as Microsoft Word or Open Office. They typically make files that a Web browser cannot read. For HTML and CSS, we want simple, plain text files.

Step 1 is to open your text editor (Notepad, Text Edit, K Edit, or whatever is your favorite), start with an empty window
  • It is the best way to collect video tutorial for you to learn.
You have to find some professional Forum to learn about CSS and HTML.
  • Use the Books our online tutorial to learn. Otherwise the best and easy way is to use a google and you tube there are many information you get. Best of luck!
  • If it is too wide, it is for your good. If you practice through W3Schools, you will definitely learn almost everything about HTML. Keep learning from there. Keep spending time there.
  • gotta say, you can find some gems on you tube but bar none the best I've found is lynda.com tons of stuff really good, almost too much to wrap your head around!
  • Google and You tube are good options and simultaneously if you will be remain active in Forums that can clear your doubts through putting up the questions in forums.....

Adobe Dreamweaver will help you to make good website with the help of scripting language...

Keep practicing is the only key...

    Good Luck...
  • Everyone is right about both Code Academy and youtube, you will be surprised by how much you can learn on youtube when you stop watching the fail compilations!

    • The good thing about W3C schools is you get a test quiz for each section which helps you pick it up or learn HTML quicker. Combine it with youTube and you should be on your way to building simple pages in no time. Be careful with youTube though - always watch the videos that have plenty of views and positive ratings. Another geat place to look is SitePoint - plenty of books you can buy as PDF or kindle format.
