Hi Everyone.

First off, thanks for taking your time to look at my post. Very appreciated!

My question is this...

Is Domain Forwarding the same as pointing a domain to a server?

I have a buddy who wants me to build a WP site for him. I have hosting through Go Daddy and he has his domain at Register.com. I told him that we could simply point his domain to my server/hosting. However he told me that Register.com charges $50 to FORWARD a domain.

I asked him to call Register.com to verify but I haven't heard back yet and I am just more curious then anything.

Does this sound right? Isn't Forwarding a domain different from pointing a domain to a server?

Thanks for your help!

BaxterBlue, i cant see any host charging money for forwarding an address. I might be wrong. Perhaps you've given them the impression that you want to move the domain name to godaddy.

For pointing a domain name from a registrar to host. either use nameservers (which godaddy provides) or point the A record to a specific ip address if you have static IP

I think you should stick with nameserver method.

      Thanks DailyIncome!

I think my Bud is getting confused. I told him that all he had to do is point his domain to the nameservers I gave him. He just keeps telling me that to FORWARD the domain costs $50. I contacted Register.com this morning but I haven't heard anything back yet.

I am new to a lot of this but I'm pretty sure that FORWARDING a domain to a specific URL is different then pointing a domain to a host. He just won't listen! LOL.

      Thanks Again.

You need to add the domain name to your hosting account and then change the nameserver settings at register.com to the nameservers assigned by your hosting. Godaddy will advise you what settings to use when you add the domain to your hosting account.

It seems that you and/or your friend don't quite understand the nomenclature involved and that is causing difficulty.
