Web Design/Development Methods?

Basically, I'm fairly new* to the web design/development business, and I have some questions for the experienced developers here.

What I mainly want to know is what methods the developers here use in building their websites. How much is done via by-hand coding? How much is done with Dreamweaver, Wordpress, etc.?

Also, how much time does the average website take you to build, and what do you charge? Set rates or per-hour rates?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

*I've studied it for about 6 months now and have done a few low-budget sites.

I always use WordPress and a Child Theme based on one of several themes I have picked from the WordPress.org hosted free themes.

100% by hand, via either Notepad++ (for simple jobs), or Netbeans (for more involved jobs). But I've built up lots of reusable templates and code snippets over the years, which saves a TON of time in the overall development process.

As per how much time an "average" website takes to build... there is no "average". Anywhere from a day (for a simple "squeeze-page" type site), to several weeks for a more involved site that requires lots of custom back-end coding. Just depends on the job.

I rarely take on any freelance work any more, but back when I did, I never charged by the hour. Always quoted a flat price on the entire project.

There's lots of great libraries, tools, etc. out there today that make coding by hand far more pleasant than it used to be, so take advantage of them. HTML5 Bolierplate, jQuery, Bootstrap, Modernizr, Firebug, XAMPP... just to name a few.

This is a loaded question my friend... First it will all depend on how well you know how html and css works. If you aren't that good at either then use dream weaver or another editor until you can learn them.

"how much time does the average website take you to build"
again this all depends on how well you know html, css etc.. also it depends on what type of site it will be. You could build a simple 3 page layout that will take an hour or less or you could build a entire business website that will take a few days to weeks.

For what to charge once again, depends on a few things, how well you know how to code using html, css js etc
Most designers around my way charge anywhere from $50.00 to $90.00 per hour. Me and my company charge will depend on what all is needed, we most of the time charge per package bu if we do charge per hour we will charge anywhere from $25.00 to $50.00 per hour again it will all depend on what all is involved and who it will be for! Hope this helps.

Ps, don't let anyone I mean ANYONE tell you their way is better then anything else, because you will find your own way which will be the best way for you, yes you may and will make mistakes but take away from them mistakes and learn LEARN LLLLLLLLLEEEEEAAAAARRRRRNNNNN!!
