I am a complete newbie trying to build a blog. What is the difference between Frontpage and Nvu? Are they the same type of software? I downloaded Nvu onto my computer but I don't think I did it right because when I right clicked on the page from my computer to use the open with option it didn't show nvu at all.

I hope someone on here can help me out

    Hello,
if you are trying to build a blog, you should use wordpress or blogger.

Frontpage and Nvu are two html editors. Nvu might not be suited for a newbie.

With Nvu open the files from its menu.

I agree with Luckies. I suggest using a self-hosted Wordpress. The learning curve is very low. It is extremely powerful and SEO ready. It's functionality and power grow with your knowledge of how to use it, and you never outgrow it. Just pick yourself a great theme from one of the many theme providers (themeforest.net is my personal favorite) or get a good freebie. Install it, and you're good to go.

If you need help with the installation PM me.

    God bless,
    Beau

I didn't make myself clear, sometimes my mind runs faster than my mouth, or vice versa. I am using a self hosted wordpress blog and have that up. I was trying to put an opt in form onto it and the info I was using said to use Nvu, but it didn't work. So I'm not sure what I did wrong.

stay away from both. If you cannot make the site yourself with TextEdit or ViM hire someone that can.

Use the widgit optin tool. It is probably already on your blog, ready to be installed. If not, go to WordPress.com

I agree with Talewins, the widget is more than likely sitting idle in the widgets section waiting to be installed & if it is not then simply get it from wordpress.com, if you get lost trying to install it correctly I suggest trying youtube.com for an instruction video on how to do it, you can't go wrong!

      Goodluck!

OPening the template pages in either program you mention will almost every time result in an absolute nightmare. That's because the templates of wordpress use a combination of HTML and php.

What you should do is open the website in your browser and the template files in a simple notepad and look at the code. In your browser look at the place where you would like to insert the box and then try to identify that place in the code. insert the box there and save the file and upload it again to your templatedirectory. That's all there is to it.

But the most simple way to insert a optin box is using indeed the plugin. Only limitation is that you are restricted to the location of your optin box as it has to be in a sidebar.
