BreakPoints in fluid design

Hi All,

I'd like to ask peoples opinion on setting breakpoints for fluid design.

Where some designers aim for specific device widths for mobiles and tablets and others go for where the page naturally breaks by using tools such as Firefox Firebug.

Apart from firebug are there any other accurate tools/add-ons that show the live pixel ratio of the page - as I've read in other forums that there are some that conflict and give wrong information.

Thanks in advance.

  • My personal opinion is that you should break where it's necessary, where it's naturally by design. Here's similar opinion: Deciding what Responsive Breakpoints to use | Tangled in Design.

Smashing Magazine is doing this, if you read the article, you'll see that they don't have "exact" resolution break points for any resolution of popular devices. Enough said!

    P.S.
If you're using Firefox, you don't need extension - just CTRL + SHIFT + M.
