New Client Request..

Hey guys..

I have a client who wants to sell a type of gift card both on his website and offline.

This will be a physical product that that customers receive.

This card will allow customers to book a hotel room or similar online via his website but only after the card has been verified by entering the card number online..

He does not want customers bringing the card in to the hotels so they must book online via his site.

When they receive the card they need to visit his website in order to verify the card by entering the card number.

This is how it will work..

>Customer visits his website and buys a card or buys the card offline
>Customer receives card
>Customer verifies/redeems card on his site
>Customer can then book a hotel on his website

Reason he wants a physical card is that he intends on selling this card offline also.. therefore will need some sort of card verification on his website.

I've built a ton of websites at this point with wordpress and can do just about anything but this is a first for me and I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about it.

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

    Dylan,
    You are going to want to look at a Gift Card Service or Fulfillment company, to handle this. Trying to come up with your own solution that will be secure from fraud will be an absolute nightmare. These companies create the cards, and handle all the authorization. Look at WooCommerce and First Data which will both adapt to Wordpress

    Thanks for that, don't know though think this one may be more hassle than it's worth.

    His pretty much trying to replicate this website:

    Free Hotel Rooms | Free Accommodation | Travel Offers

    Only difference been he doesn't want customers bringing the cards to the hotels so they must verify the card and book the hotel via his website.

    So the customer will buy the card online or offline, verify it on his website then book a hotel via an online booking system..

    I'm pretty much used to building the "standard" small business website & I Still can't quite get my head around this one...

      That site you gave appears to offer very little functionality that you are requesting..

      1.) It's a membership site, not selling cards
      When you become a Travel Offers Member, you can stay for free at as many Hotels as you wish throughout your 12 month Membership!

      2.) It doesn't offer online booking or availability, you have to CALL and book
      1. Select your hotel
      2. Call to check availability for Travel Offers members
      3. Make your booking
      So it looks like your client is trying to offer the availability of physical cards. Since gift cards by nature are not secure only containing a 16 digit and no matching name or CVN or expiration..(which is why they don't have the 16 digit number printed on them it's only in the mag stripe.)

      All you would need to do is create a list of 16 digit codes (say 10,000 of them) load them into a database, then have those printed on the cards, and set them up as a coupon code on the site to cover the membership cost.
