Hello,

I am trying to select from the free forum platforms that are available. Which one do you recommend and why? I am going to start a bitcoin forum at www.btc21.org At some point, I will upgrade to vBulletin.

Thanks.

      Hey, Joe Ferdinando,

Thank you for your input. I really do appreciate it. I have been meaning to get back on that last thread but have been very busy. I haven't finished that little project as of yet.

      You are grrrrrrrreat! Thanks.

P.s. I am going to go with phpBB.

I am installing it now. First time I ever install a forum.

Question: When filling out the directory section what is best to put in there? I don't really understand the actual effect this will have. If I put forum.domainname.com when people go to the the domainname.com will they be taken to the forum (as it will for now be the only thing on the site)or only if they type in forum.domainname.com? I'm not sure how best to fill this section.

        In Directory
The directory is relative to your domain and should not exist. e.g. To install at http://mydomain/dir/ just type dir. To install only in http://mydomain/ leave this empty.

Can someone explain to me what I did wrong?

          Index of /

Ummm, I see how it works. If you put something in the Directory then the phpBB is placed there not in the homepage. I am learning...

This is the link to your forum:
            "btc21.org/Forum"

This should be your main website or a landing page!
            "btc21.org"

in cpanel or ftp the "public_html" folder is your main directory for "btc21.org" so you need an "index.html" or "index.php" to show your main webpage for your website!

the directory you installed in is called "forum"

This is the link to your forum:
          "btc21.org/Forum"

a)The name of the folder(directory) you want to install the forum in!

when people go to the the domainname.com
          a) That is the main directory "public_html folder! This is used for your default website or landing page!

all folders in your public-html folder are called directories!

You can install hundereds of subdomain folders with their own scripts or websites in a subdomain folder' You have to check your hosting account to see how many databases you are allowed. And how many subdomain you are allowed!

forum.domainname.com and mydomain.com/forum are the same!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I resolved the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the forum and just leaving blank the section about the directory. This way it resolves to the forum.

I spent sometime with phpBB and it is easy to manage. I like it. The version I have which I installed only a couple of days ago, is already outdated. A new version has come out. I like this one for now and at some point if the site is a success, I will move the info to a vBulletin.

            Peace
