PHP - Search Box & Forms

Hi, I'm totally new to website design so please bare with me. I've created a site having downloaded a template and edited the various sections to suit. I have a Search Box and a Form, but I would like help to make them actually work. I've read I need a PHP file but no idea what exactly I need. If you can help, let me know what information you need and I'll post.

    In order to make search form to work, you need to store your data in database. That way, search will be able to perform a search, and get you back results. If you're having only HTML of a search, it can't do anything.

    It would be easier to use some CMS if you're beginner (such as WordPress), which has all built in. And you go ahead and learn HTML, CSS and PHP if you want.
