There's really no reason to pay for 10 years. The internet and life move too quickly... I wouldn't want to be locked in to a domain for 10 years. Godaddy allows you to have 5 year renewals which should be sufficient.

With that said, it might be more economical to get the domain for 1 year, and then renew it for 1-5 years if you wind up sticking with it (over 90% of the domains I register I don't wind up renewing but your situation might be different).

...Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just set there.

As others already said, there's no need to for 10 years upfront payment!
I had a client who insisted on this, and he paid a domain for a 3 or 5 years in advance. It's possible (godaddy).

I paid by mistake for my domain 4-5 years in advance too, but it was error on name.com, couldn't pass payment page few times (while there were no errors on page and no success payment message). I didn't get my money back..

If you pay year to year then Google will think you are not really sure about your website, which means it will not rank as high. If you pay for many years at once it shows Google that you plan on being around for a while.

So if search engine traffic is something you want then I recommend you buy more than one year at a time. If you are not going after search engine traffic, then I do not think it matters.

My experience is 2 yrs is reasonable. One year comes and goes too quickly. Things change on the internet dramatically. Hosting features, servers....etc etc so give yourself the time and ability to accilmate to the times. You always get ample notice to renew so you don't have to fear losing the domain. Likewise, I would put a reminder in your gmail calendar account.

Unless your domain and/or company is worth 6 figures, I would not bother paying 10 years up front.

Why you want to pay for 10 years. Is there any specific reason. People don't like to pay money in advance because technology is getting change day by day. Might be there must be some new plans of Godaddy in some coming few years.
So pay yearly and renew it next to next year.

    Thanks

Not a good idea to pay 10 years in advance.

I do not think that its good to pay for next 10 years. May be you move your website from godaddy to another domain. I think godaddy give at most 5 year advance registration not 10 years.
