How use domain name on hosted wordpress blog?

Please forgive my being thick, I have done this in the past but can't remember how and can't for the life of me manage to Google the answer I just drown in irrelevant posts about wordpress.com blogs and how to move blogs.

I am now overly confused and stressed. It is clearly a simple thing and I feel so stupid that I can't think what to do.

I have an existing website that uses a .com domain name.

The .com is registered through GoDaddy. My hosting is also with them. All Godaddy.

I have built a new GoDaddy-hosted Wordpress blog. I would like to use my .com for this site instead of the old one.

So all I want to do is point the domain name at the new blog.

Please could someone tell me in basic English what I need to change and where?

  • Hi Deborah,

I've got my domain name from GoDaddy and my hosting from HostGator and I can show you up to the point of how I connect it inside of GoDaddy. I've never got my hosting with GoDaddy so I'm not sure up to what point of what I show you will be relevant.
    1. Log in to your GoDaddy account.
    2. Click on DOMAINS.
    3. Click on the green LAUNCH button next to the domain you want to connect.
    4. On the left down the page find you will see a list of things that you can manage. Find NAME SERVERS and click on the MANAGE link next to it.
At this point I would enter the name server details provided by HostGator so I would assume that you would enter the name server details that GoDaddy provided you with. The name server details usually look like this:

    NL0001.GODADDY.COM
    NL0002.GODADDY.COM

I just made those details up, but I thought I'd show you what the format looks like so you know what you're looking for.

That's as far as I can help you.
    Hope it helped.

  • I wouldn't ever buy anything from someone who spams on Warrion Forum they should keep your money and delete your WSO
  • Thank you very much, Wasim,

I will give that a go.

I do appreciate your help, thank you :-)
  • I am so sorry but this doesn't seem to work.

The name servers for the .com are already GoDaddy ones, because the .com is currently pointing at my old website which is hosted by GoDaddy. The name servers are the default GoDaddy ones of NS23.DOMAINCONTROL.COM and NS24.DOMAINCONTROL.COM.

So what would I change them to?

I am not changing hosts. Just where the .com points.

  • So all you need to do is just forward your .com domain to the new one then. I don't use Godaddy myself, so can't tell you the exact steps to take, as it would be slightly different how i do this with my domains at Name. But here's a Godaddy tutorial so you can follow the steps you need to take with your domain. Hope this helps.
