Warriors,

I recently finished creating my WordPress site after understanding the platform and building everything from scratch, using the proper plug-ins I'm extremely proud at what I was able to accomplish within a year. You guys have motivated me and now I always have something to look forward to, So Thank You!

I'm almost close to launching and had a couple questions I was hoping some of you can help me with. I also wanted to know if there is any other good forum out there that surrounds WordPress community that I can reach out to and contribute.

Here are my questions:

1) What is the best method to back up database and clone WordPress in an automatic fashion? This includes (Posts, Themes, Designs, everything) Just in case I lose information.

2) How can I go about replacing my WordPress theme with a legit one (when I first started I had no money and had to use a downloaded copy of a theme I wanted to build on. As soon as I got money I purchased the theme from the developer, so I would like to replace the theme I downloaded to the legit theme I purchased without it effecting posts, plug-ins and data. What would be the best way around this?

3) Does updated WordPress in general often affect the theme of the website or plug-ins? If so, what would be the best method to apply prior to updating WordPress platform once a website is live?

4) What would be the best way to have outsiders contribute by posting content without giving them access to the WP platform? In other words, without giving them admin access. How does it work?

5) What are the best SEO plugins to use? (Paid and Free)

6) How can I hide my log-in screen so no one types (/wp-admin) to access the info. Is there a way to create a custom log-in page? How can I hide others from knowing I build the website using WP platform?

7) What are the best methods to protect yourself from being hacked?

8) I currently use Godaddy hosting, is there any others hosts that run more efficiently for WP platform?

9) Aside from Google Analytics, is there anything else worth looking into for tracking user behavior?

    1. WordPress Backup to Dropbox, BackWPUp?

    2. Unless your theme packed with bunch of custom features like shortcodes or other database intervention functions you shouldn't be worried.

    3. In most case upgrade issues can be caused by themes/plugins that are not properly coded according WP guidelines, usage of deprecated functions, etc. Just make sure to backup before upgrade.

    4. There are lot of plugins to allow user create new post from the site front-end. Try this is one: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-user-frontend

    5. For me, WordPress SEO by Yoast.

    6. Hide My WP can hide your WP site footprints.

    7. Use strong password, only use theme/plugin from trusted sources, use trusted hosting, etc.

    8. Managed services like WPEngine and the like can be considered, they are costly though. If you just started I think GoDaddy is fine.

    9. Analytics is all I need.

Oh, and congrats for your new site!

    Hi there,

great questions you have here, let's see if we can get you the answers

    1. My preferred plugin of choice to create automatic backups is Backupbuddy. It's a premium plugin but a good one.

    2. If you did not make any changes to the theme files themselves, it's just a matter of deleting the old version and uploading the new one. You can change your theme to a default one, then delete the theme you have running now and upload the correct version through your wp-admin. If you made changes to the theme files the process is a bit more difficult.

    3. Always have a recent backup before upgrading. It's software, and anything can go wrong, from a not complete upgrade to plugins that don't work properly yet with the new version of WP. If you have a good backup you can always put that back up.

    4. Use a plugin to post from the front-end OR create an account for the people who post on your site that only has the role set to Contributor or Author. More information on what they have access too you can find here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_an...mmary_of_Roles

    5. WordPress SEO by Yoast

    6. the free plugin iThemes Security offers that feature and has a lot more different security features that I recommend.

    7. Have a secure installation of WordPress, set up iThemes security plugin (or another security plugin that offers at minimum the same level of security), use difficult to guess usernames and passwords are just a few of the most important tips when it comes to securing your WordPress site

    8. Personally I hate Godaddy hosting, to be honest, when clients come to me to get their site running on Godaddy hosting, I charge more, just because they can be such a PITA (the hosting, not the clients LOL) I host my smaller sites at D9hosting, my bigger WordPress sites are at WP Engine.

    9. I quit using Google Analytics and started using Clicky. Much better, detailed information.

    Hope this helps
