Website Spokesperson Video

So a client of mine that I'm building a website for has some interest in a website spokesperson video (green screen full body videos that plays automatically). Thinking it would be cool way to be unique and show someone using his product right on the webpage.

I personally think these videos look very tacky and instead recommended a video on YouTube instead which can be embedded on his site. Basically, I just pointed out that these videos don't work well on mobile, some people may find them intrusive/annoying, extra cost with production, and you'd have less searchability/visibility than with a YouTube video.

However, I'm interested what other people think about these types of videos, Is there any place for them? Do they come off as tacky to you?

    Any page designed to persuade must start with a text UVP (Unique Value Proposition, your "offer").

    As long as this is in text at the page top, I don't see any reason not to have a video below that (and above the fold).

    A video is never a substitute for this UVP statement. but one can be used to reinforce the UVP.

    I don't think such videos are "tacky", if done well. They are the de facto standard in certain market niches (e.g. Internet Marketing).
