Hostgator hosting -- How Do I FTP all files/folders at once?

Hi, apologies for what seems like a very basic question. In my hostgator account, I can't seem to find a way FTP upload all the files/folders I want to all at the same time, by highlighting them all at once, or what have you. Make sense? I can get to a window where I can upload files, but it only lets me do one at a time, trying to highlight them all with the shift and arrow keys or just with the mouse doesn't work, it just won't let me.

So where do I go so I don't have to spend an hour uploading all the files I want to upload? It's very straightforward with the only other host I've used, godaddy. Madness, this is. I only came here as I looked and looked, even on separate days and somehow still missed it.

Can anyone help me? Thanks.

I don't think they provide an option like that. 3rd party FTP apps are usually a better choice, anyway. Try filezilla or cuteftp. FZ is free. I think cuteftp is, too. Quick & easy to set up, and more flexible than a proprietary app is likely to be.

I figured out the only way to do it with hostgator is to create a webdisk on my computer, but I think I will go with your suggestion of filezilla. Thanks.

    Hi RedIceLander

I use CuteFTP all the time to do exactly what you are asking. It is an easy to use program for moving files in either direction... To or from your web server.

I use CuteFTP, but you can also find many other FTP programs. Some are free, others are not.

Basically you end up with two windows inside the program. The left is your computer and the right is your webserver. You can select files and folders in the left window pane and then select upload. This will make all the directory structure you have selected on your computer and copy it to your webserver. All files will also be copied to the webserver.

Very easy.... This is also good as you can define different accounts (web hosting packages) and then in the future if you need to change something, you just select the name and it will jump to that server the directories you want.

I am a web designer and work with many different clients sites. I have about 50 different webservers setup in CuteFTP and when I need to update a cleints site, I just select the account I made and I am instantly contected to thier hosting package.

Hope that helps you better understand how FTP works.

    Have a Great Day!

There is a limit to the size of uploads with HG. You can select all (top menu) then compress to a single zip file and then upload it and uncompress it. Or you can use one of the free ftp services as mentioned. (I like filezilla).

    Dawn.

I use Filezilla. It's reliable and fast to upload all of my files at once. It's especially handy if you're doing large transfers like wordpress or other sites with a large number of files.

    Hi,

I use FileZilla and it allows many file transfers at once. I am not sure about the other programs though.
