How to sell a responsive template

I started learning this stuff a couple of months ago and I really enjoy creating a website. I learned how to create a responsive site that really works on all devices.

It was definitely a learning curve, but now I have the site and I love it.

It just occurred to me that I might be able sell this template. However, obviously I have no experience in this.

I'd appreciate if those of you who are selling templates could share your knowledge and experience with me.

I am not interested in the marketing part as much, although any info will help, but I am more interested in the actual process of how to deliver the template, making changes if the buyer needs, any license agreement issues, what is the best way to actually present the template to the buyer and just general guidelines on how to deal with the buyers.

I just want to make sure I do this the right way.

it all depends - if you are able to drive traffic to your site to sell your template yourself, then that would be the way to go, using a simple cart site - you can do this easily with WordPress and WooCommerce -and a PayPal account.

If you don't have the time and you want to capitalize on existing traffic - create an author account at Envato - just use the same link as @webresponsive posted above.

        Thanks!

For delivery, I should just set up a download link for the client to download the html/css/php files and thats it? What else do I need to include? Should I grant some sort of a license for the client?

You would want to include all template files in a zip archive - maybe with a readme text file that explains the license terms - but you might save yourself a lot of headaches but putting the license terms right on your sales page.
Make sure if you are implementing a direct download delivery system from your site that you have some kind of download protection in place (Dl Guard or similar) - or use the services of digital download delivery services like JVZoo or eJunkie or similar -

Selling WordPress themes can be a pretty interesting business model, however there's a great competition ahead.

    You have 2 options

    1. Sell themes on your own site
    2. Use a theme marketplace

The first option would give you better results in terms of cash only if you are capable to handle good content on your website and you bring enough traffic/conversion to it.

The second one requires you to register on a website like ThemeForest or Mojo-Themes and receive a 50% to 70% commission per sale. However, they will help you promote your themes and users will buy with ease because these are trusted and verified theme sources.
