I have a new site up called Anubis. Its about Egyptian mythology.

I'm going to do a re-design and thought i should ask and see what needs improvement. The site is made to help k-12 students find information on gods, and hopefully make some money through adsense. what should i change/improve?

http://www.anubis.org/

if you check one of my gods pages, the rest are of the pages are all pretty much identical, just different hieroglyphics and information. please give me some feed back.

    1) Great domain name

    2) Nice look to the site, although I would maybe center it rather than have everything to the left

    3) Way too many ads, and improperly targeted ...

When you're targeting students and educators, it's better to go after educational products and services that are relevant to your content than relying on contextual scripts to decide what gets put there. You could use specific titles from Amazon for example, make the ads a little less intrusive, and explicitly state that maintenance and development of the site is dependent upon sponsor support (something you are forbidden to do with AdSense.) Mix up the results a little -- put up bestsellers since they tend to be interesting and engaging (and, of course, "best selling") but also look for more straighforward educational stuff -- perhaps by mining the Wikipedia references section on your topics to find which scholarly books are considered the authorities.

    4) Lose the arcade and entertainment links; teachers will be turned off and not recommend the site or take it seriously if it's actively distracting students from their work.

    5) Ditto on your links page -- lose any link that isn't to an educational resource related to Egyptology, and make those links nofollow.

    6) I have found that on sites dealing with educators, a feedback/suggestions page is welcomed. If you get any comments from teachers send them a personal e-mail thanking them for it; this can dramatically increase the sticky factor for the site.

    7) A page devoted to the hieroglyphs alone might be interesting and attract some link bait. WordTracker indicates that there are more than 4,000 searches per day on various heiroglyphics-related search terms on Google alone -- target that traffic!

    Hope this helps.

The metallic look is nice, but look-wise I expected something worn and faded. An old scroll, egyptian paintings, etc...

fm1234 said everthing else. Listen to him.

I have to agree that is an excelent domain

about the site. the site looks well structured, but i'd change the metalized gradient effects because it attracks too much attetion

    Thats my opinion

    Comments on the site, anubis.org.

This is a real niche site, and it would be a good information source considering that there's not too many resources for Anubis, or of egyptian mythology, in general.

After having said that, I would think that the main point you would want is to make this kid-friendly, since that your target audience is K-12. Point by point:

    1. Increase the font size. You used only one font size, and it's a little too small to be kid-friendly.
    2. The Ad-sense is all over the page. I would suggest that you keep it as a sidebar. That would make it unobtrusive. And do away with the ad-sense panel across the top.
    3. I'm sorry but I'm not a fan of a black background for an educational/historical/archeological site. Stone, marble, or terra cota, or a scroll background would look good on this.
    4. The bottom panel for the footer has a large white space. I sure hope you have plans of putting something there.
    5. Lastly, get a kid to check it out. Ask the kid what he thinks about the graphic.

On a brighter note, the page displayed fast. This is a big plus in my book. You want kids not to lose attention while waiting for the page to display.

Give it another spin, and another round of changes.

    I hope your page works.

Nice little website you've got there!

You've done a good job hiding those AdSense ads

I like the whole site in general.. but the major thing is the adsense.. I like how you blended it into the theme and feel of the site.. but it seems like its EVERYWHERE.. The content is split up a bit too much for my liking. But it's a great niche site!

Center the whole thing and make it simpler - less links and easy to undestand. Then you have a great and personal site!

    Hi,
Very informative site I must say, especially for the people like me who have deep interest in old civilizations and mythologies. It is a great looking site too.

Following are some of my suggestions to enhance the looks of the site -

    1. As far as look of the site, the one major thing is missing a great header, although graphics used are very impressive and providing a perfect ambience to the niche content.

    2. If you center align the site then it will enhance the viewing

    3. It is hard to make difference between site content and adwords so it will be great if you change the background color of Google adwords sections, so it will not compete or mix with actual content of site

    4. Instead of using "commas" to separate links in navigation use some divider.

    - Center the site
    - 3/4 of the page is Adsense. Huge turnoff for people visiting actually looking for solid information. One thing you could do... The header section should have a title of the site, an image, and if there's still room, maybe some Adsense
    - I don't get the dashed borders. There's already a lot of eye candy with the hieroglyphics everywhere.
    - The gods pages could use images
    - Text should not be uniform size. You should use various text sizes for links, titles, and text
