Wordpress email plugin

I'm looking for a wordpress email plugin that WORKS! I would like to be able to send the occasional email from within wordpress to commenters and others ...
Does anyone know of such a plugin?

Are there any others?

Mailpress is very, very impressive. Some of the plugins give you features lacking in mailing platforms that cost $10k and up.
