Hey Guys,

I want to set up some sites with content lockers, is anyone using this technique and if so what type of content is allowed by the CPA networks? Also what type of content in your experience works best?

Do you use the networks own gateway or a third party gateway, any recommendations?

I always thought that this technique was mainly BlueFart because content lockers work best on illegal content downloads / streaming.

It would be great to get some advice on how to go about doing this the legitimate way??

Thanks for any advice.
Derek.

I would use a network dedicated to it like Leadbolt or Blam

And no, its not bluefart. I mean some people use it in shady ways and for shady content but you can lock anything you want. Recipes, game cheat codes, how to guides, pretty much anything can be locked!

Just like anything else, the trick becomes getting traffic to your site. The content lock is just the monetization end of the traffic, so the focus still is on the traffic.

Cheers for the plug, Kenster Always appreciated.

Derek - the beautiful thing about content locking is how customizable it is. What we encourage publishers to do is to first discover their own skill-set and an interest - what would you appeal to you as a visitor? If you're a savvy writer, create some original ebooks and use the gateway as a freemium ad format or a support tool to keep the ebooks available at no cost to the user. There are plenty of ways you can drive traffic towards this type of content.

Although our network accepts all content, we are strong advocates of white-hat and organic methods in content-locking campaigns. And if content locking on the web becomes too tedious for you, you can expand your working strategies into mobile apps as well

    Thanks Guys,

Some good advice there. Thanks for some ideas niche ideas Kenster, much appreciated.

Brian, does Leadbolt have their own content locker? Also, is there a way of tracking / split testing offers on it? I take it the offers that qualify to be used with the content locker are only "incentive" offers... is this correct?

    Thanks again for your input,
    Derek.

We do indeed have our own unlockers. We run our offers on an algorithm that tracks and automatically prioritizes the best converting and highest paying offers that are relevant to your audience. You can also manually optimize offers you know convert with your audience.

We also feature a multivariate option that allows you to run as many different unlocker variations as you'd like (skins, text, etc.), illustrating which combination is best received by your traffic.

These offers are still formatted as CPA - with content locking being suitable for premium/demanded content. So it's certainly a different beast when compared with straight incent programs.

Would be happy to get questions taken care of or bounce around any ideas!

We're one of the largest and oldest content-locking networks around -- feel free to shoot me questions Derek.
Unlike others we only accept legitimate whitehat traffic, but we in turn have high quality offers/advertisers

There's definitely a lot of money to be made from content locking, blackhat or whitehat.
Lots of people did downloads/movies because they're always in demand, but it doesn't necessarily need to be anything like that.
As long as it's something worth completing an offer to access, then it'll work.

Game beta codes work very well, it's just timing it right, but the demand is so high these kids will do anything.

I recommend trying Leadbolt, Blam Ads, or Adscend.

I know this thread is old...but just applied to both Adscend and Leadbolt. I'm already with BlamAds. All traffic is white hat - see URLs below.

    Derek,

We actually are releasing a content unlocker in beta mode soon, so if you are interested in being a beta tester let me know.

We want to work out all the kinks with our unlocker which is why it's going in beta. It seems like you are some what new to the content unlocker niche, so if you want to grow as we grow, we can both make this into an informative learning experience.

You can check out a little bit more about our network with the "Content Unlocker Beta Testers Needed" link in my sig.

If not, I suggest you try out Adscend, Blamads, and Leadbolt if you are looking for public ready content unlockers. From what I know and hear, they are definitely worth a shot.

Can I just say, BlueFart is a really funny term to me. I'm pushing forty years old and stuff like that still makes me laugh, to my wife's dismay.

I used LeadBolt for my new website which you can see in my sig if you want to, and I am amazed at how simple the process is. I would say my tech skills are moderate, and I was worried about a difficult setup. But this was so freaking easy to do!

My goal is to get traffic to the site now, and also integrate LeadBolt advertising into my free apps. I think this income model is great because it's a win for the advertiser to get a captive audience, a win for LeadBolt, a win for the person who gets premium content for free, and a win foe you as you make money.

If you want to see an unlocker in action, and I actually changed mine from the default look to one that is in my niche, go to my site, fill out an offer, and as a bonus, get my free eBook!
