Facebook ads are awesome!

Just want to say that FB ads are f***ing awesome!

I have not used any form of ppc for a while after the saga I've been through with Google

I setup my ads only just yesterday, so far I've spent a measly amount $13 for 1 promoted post and 1 like ad and i've now got 200+ likes and growing, plenty of likes on my posts, 2 new registrations to my website and my web traffic has started to climb.

So far so good from me and I give FB 2 thumbs up!

If this continues ill be using FB ads well into the future.

Just thought I would share.

Yeah, Facebook traffic is great, as long as you keep targeting your audience and you are aware of Facebook's Ad Guidelines.

Depends of the niche, for example if you are photographer or offer something that you should go 100% with facebook ads, if you have forum, portals that will not convert in nothing i think.

Facebook loves Facebook Fanpages, other stuff is a little trickier.

    Use this to your advantage.

Basically it was dumb luck. Im not going to sit here and pretend im some genius. I just took what I know from marketing and created an ad.

Firstly I recognized that people generally dont like getting told what to do, or in this case what to like. I hate that and I'm pretty sure most other people hate it too.

So instead of creating a cheesy like ad I cropped part of my logo which uses a red greyhound and basically just said "Like our RED Greyhound if you LOVE Racing, Breeding, Training or Punting on Greyhounds!"

So I separated the ad and the liking of the ad from our business. People love dogs, people love mascots even more and people like to associate with things they like or love, it's the tribe mentality. Here is an image:

I also promoted 2 posts where I used images of greyhounds and created memes. One of those I have stopped but it ended up getting 27 likes and the new one has only been running for a couple hours and already has a few likes.

Im working on a new blog post which I will also promote, I hope it goes viral as it should fester a few emotional feelings in people

Haha, nah don't think so, too busy atm. But thanks anyway i'll take that as a compliment

Im like you I just set the daily lifetime spend to $10 seeing as I was a virgin to the whole thing. So far spent $22.13 and got 280+ likes, more traffic to my site, 1 new ad on my site, 3 more registrations to my site and my site is not even 100% fully optimized at the moment in terms of on screen copy for conversion.

      Yes and No for me.

Im doing a like campaign to get more likes because a lot of the people in my industry use FB so if they like you then basically you have them as a fan which means you can communicate directly with them as well as promoting posts to them etc.

So far ive had 1 guy posting ads on the FB page itself which is totally cool and I helped another guy sign up and post a wanted ad. Current CTR is 0.872% which aint bad considering the niche is as tight as a dolphins you know what.

Many people say that FB isn't effective, but it's usually because they're not using it properly. When used wisely FB has a great potential.

Certainly effectiveness of the ad and targeting the right people are key points.
However in a case like the OP's - and he pretty much says as much - the key to getting a lot of Likes is having the right subject matter. Apparently dogs are great subjects for FB fan pages - or used to be - it's probably pretty much played out now.

But try to get likes for a Product that isn't Sexy and it's a whole other ball of wax. FB is mostly good for "fun" things - subjects people are obsessed with or excited about; things people are FANS of. But products are really hard to push on facebook.

It's possible that I am wrong and I'd be happy to hear from people who are having success selling an unsexy product on facebook, or a product that does not fill a desperate need, as opposed to a more mundane, healthy but "optional" product.

Good stuff. The like thing does work when sending it to fanpages. I think you got most of the likes from the meme though?

Whichever way, you're right in that FB has a ton of traffic and while you can't do the normal direct marketer thing with it, you can still profit off it big time.

Yes it does actually Likes themselves have no direct monetary value but what happens when someone likes your fan page is it's like an auto subscription to your page so whenever you write something or post something they have the potential to see it. Then you also have the ability to write and post on their walls and in their time lines as well as promoting your posts to them.

So far i'm only at $30 bucks and i've got 4 new registrations, plenty of likes, plenty of new FB traffic to my site, people talking about it etc.

If they like your page, then whenever you post it shows in their news feed.

Plus once you get enough likes, you can then start on sponsored stories which show friends of theirs your stuff too.

It's not the typical "direct linking" mentality at all

After edgerank, its not the case. If your page's edgerank is low, your posts will not be visible in feed unless user has subscribed for notifications too.

Lots of people are asking the same questions, i'll try answer here.

-I sent the traffic to both my time line, for likes and to my website. I got the best conversion for likes for some reason... I think people like to like things
-Using daily budget currently of $20, I let FB optimize for clicks with a max of 0.21cents and an average of 0.16cents.
-Targeting about 100K people in my niche and related niches.

Im no expert at FB ads, but I do believe its a great source of traffic. Some people are saying FB is not good as people are not searching for what you are offering. True in one respect however, they are still online, they are still only going to click if they are interested and its not different to magazine or newspaper advertising only with a lot more features and its instant.

Currently i'm working on my copy to try and get more conversions to click.

        ***UPDATE***

I decided to go with FB's recommended bid with a max of 0.38cents and I watched my clicks go up immediately. I noticed that what they auto select for you is different to what they recommend. The interesting thing is that my average only increased by 1 cent to 0.17cents.

Interesting yes it appears when you let them take control they send more traffic but charge a bit more at least with mine they did. i went from manually controlling it as 10cents a click to giving them control and them upping it to 52cents a click. They blew through $25 in a few hours Still its going well

Yeah I also noticed that every time you up the basic cost per click they offer you to up it again as per their recommend bid... it raises questions for me for sure, but hey they run a business too and as long as you dont simply go with what they always recommend and stay within your budget, you'll be fine.

I found that I've gotten very cheap clicks from them too! And they allow you to send people to squeeze pages as well, unlike big G. Just that from what I've heard and experienced myself, fb clicks work better for 'liking' pages or posts versus getting their email on a squeeze page

Yea i don't think FB ads are essentially best for B2B

Most folks on facebook are checking in on friends, they are in that entertainment mode. If you can provide something of value, free and with an element of curiosity in it you can drive some serious traffic and convert.

As my results have been pretty good so far Im going to keep testing different methods with them.

I don't know, in my case I see that sometimes the likes can be a little bit shady. I was promoting my web design company and was getting lots of likes to my posts and fb page but no one was inquiring about getting work done, also the profiles of some of the people liking my page were 'not the kind of people who would like my page'. So, I decided to do a little experiment and results were terrifying.

I decided to create an ad with random text (I mean text that did not make any sense at all or mean anything!) and a blank picture with a simple dot in the middle. Title was random and everything else as well.

    Result: page/posts likes increased!

So in my opinion if the ads are not translating into 'real' engagements (messages, comments, contacts) likes mean nothing.

That's very interesting to hear. You should document that in a post.

I recently ran a campaign and received 40+ likes on the image I boosted. However, I received only 1 click to the link that was part of the post even though the information in the link was what was supposed to be the enticing factor for a click.

I'd like to see the CTRs to pages outside of Facebook and how those ads were set up.

Your test is important, This issue are definitely worthwhile to check, could be that Facebook sends fake bot traffic that clicks likes everywhere?

I have been considering this myself, targeting and price in comparison to Google...

but nobody here seems to have considered all of the bloat likes coming from areas you are not target - this is a really big issue (Google it).

Has anybody experienced this problem themselves or gotten away with it?

I setup my ads only just yesterday, so far I've spent a measly amount $13 for 1 promoted post and 1 like ad and i've now got 200+ likes and growing, plenty of likes on my posts, 2 new registrations to my website and my web traffic has started to climb.

So far so good from me and I give FB 2 thumbs up!

If this continues ill be using FB ads well into the future.

    Just thought I would share.
I agree, I ran facebook ads for a campaign of mine and I got in 8,500 likes from all over the place! I now have my pay pal account embedded within facebook tabs and that is pretty cool! Likes are not everything as you still need to have a method for people to buy your product/service. You should embed an aweber / get response / pay pal account into facebook and REALLY yield results.
