Getting few cents per click....

Even after targetting high paying adsense ads.

I have actually targetted words that are paying $6 per click ( as shown in google keyword external tool)
and I am even ranked on the first page of google for that keyword.
But I am still getting less than 20 cents per click.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong here.
Why am I getting less than 20 cents per click when the google tool says that cpc for
that keyword is $6?

Would love to get some advice from you guys.

one tip is to reduce the no. of adsense block u have on a page.

reduce to one and see your earning per click increases.

Your ads may not be targetting the right keywords. You could be getting clicks from the lowest paying ads.
There's a ton of things that could be going on for that. Reduce the number of ads on your site so only the top paying ones show.

You could try using Google's Competitive Ad Filter which provides the functionality to block specific ads from appearing on your pages.

The other thought is that the external keyword tool is really only to see how much it would cost to get the top ad spots in SEARCH. You may see a big fall off for content targeting. It would be worth browsing your site though and seeing if the ads are relevant to the content. (Perhaps using googles tags to outline the content rich part of the page and ignore navigation.)

Hmm, thanks for the replies.
Yes, I think I am getting clicks from the low paying ads.

At the moment, I have 3 adsense blocks on my site.
so, should I reduce it to 1?
I will try it out.

As for filtering out the lower paying ads,
I dont know how to find out which of these ads are the low paying ones.
I dont want to accidently block the higher paying ads.

could anyone tell me how to find out the lower paying ads and block them.

Just because an advertisement costs a lot to the advertiser (Tip: Not all advertisers will pay the high amount you see... perhaps only a few will even come close to paying that amount if they appear at the top of the results) doesn't mean you'll earn a lot.

Many of the advertisers in the world of high paying keywords OPT OUT of the Adsense network. This means there ads only appear in Google Search and certain select partners.

Add to this the fact that Google has to think your site is worthwhile in order to display high paying ads. So you may never see any of this "Premium" inventory on your site.

Now factor into the equation Quality Scores - the highest paying ads are not always the first result, and a number of other factors like time of day, day of week, the number of ad units you display, etc.

I hope you are getting the point. And that's this... you SHOULD target industries where advertisers are willing to spend freely for leads. But just targeting "High Paying Keywords" is not any guarantee of success.

Google may very well charge an advertiser $6 a click to appear on your site, then they may reward you with a nickle. They have all the power. And that's just how it is. It's your job to understand how the game is played.
