Does .info are inferior to .com in term of SEO or it's equal and I'm banging my head for nothing?

Regards,
Dan

There was a big discussion on this recently. People are pretty dogmatic on both sides usually. IMO I would take a .com 100 out of 100 times. If there is nothing else available then choose the .info

My main keywords are taken for the .com for this project.

Do I simply go with a dot com with a prefix (or a suffix) or a choose an dot info with my exact keywords?

Also, I have to say that this new website is only to rank high on the search engine to get leads to my other websites for my niche business. I think it's an important point to add.

      Thanks guys for your answer.

Why not, go with a longtail keyword.
Once i tried to rank .info and to be honest with you it goes really slowly.
        Just my opinion.

It's worth mentioning that .info's are heavily spammed due to their low cost.

      And you know this because......?

Dot coms are dirt cheap as well. Actually, it was dot biz that used
to be the "spammed" extension. That thought is so 2005.

i have personally noticed from experience that .info is much harder then ranking a .com .org or .net Google doesn't give the domain the same love
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[2036914].message }}
  • Go with the .com - always! The next choices are .net / .org. The problem with .info domains are that they tend to stay in the Google sandbox for a longer time and may never come out of it if there are any issues with the content. As has been stated already, .info domains have somewhat lost their credibility with search engines as well as users.

It is hard to give a definite answer, not many bought the same domain name with diff (.com/.info) and SEOed it for the same kwd and checked its ranking...

I have several .info domains #1 for medium competition kwds, would they be higher if they were .com? Only G knows...

I say: if you buy a test domain/bulk purchases bbuy .info, if you want to establish a money site, why take the risk that the .info will rank lower? the 6$ diff just not wort it!

That's good! Just shows that a lot of people just don't
        read any answers before posting.

If anybody in the google pagerank niche can unseat
prchecker.info, that would be one of the biggest SEO
        conquests ever.

Speaking of extensions, I just read that dot bz is up and
        coming. Go figure.

Hmmm, I started setting up a .info auto-blog site this week. I gave the site ONE tiny little freaking link, at Twitter. BAM!! With in minutes Google found the site, and quickly indexed a few pages. This was yesterday, and it didn't just get a few pages and leave. 34 pages are now index...and I don't even freaken want the site crawled yet!!!! I'm not even done with the site!! Heck, the domain was registered less than a week ago!!!

Obviously any one who bashes .info extensions has never really tried them, or doesn't know how to get index by Google that well. I got another little .info domain that has 364 pages indexed, and Google's been all over that baby. Lately it's been crawling the site day in and day out!! I can just guess how many pages will be indexed when the next update comes. I simply used my YouTube videos to give that site links.

All it takes is some good back-links on authority sites and bam, Google doesn't give a rats-rear-end what the extension is. Oh, and these links are almost completely no-follow links!!!

Oh, and did I mention, all my domains have the exact same IP address??!!!

In my experience, for a .com site and a .info site with the exact same content and exact same backlinks, promotional methods, the .com always comes up above .info

I'm setting up 5 autoblogs, Have registered 5 .info domains. Already set up one .info blog. These blogs will only be used to get my backlinks indexed. Wonder if I should register .com domains for the 4 other autoblogs. Remember the idea of these blogs is not to rank high in google, but to get my backlinks indexed. I started out with .info because the Backlink Index Express guide recommended .info domains because they are so cheap. Wonder if I should use .com instead?

I think it is more important to focus on what comes before the dot rather than after the dot.

Having your site keyword concept in the domain name and writing quality, relevant, keyword focused content pages is more important than what comes after the dot.

From my experience, within less than a month of setting up some .info domains,I have outranked millions of a .com pages and even established website within 3 weeks! and also outranked mostly .com sites to top spot on google for 2 keywords within a week,so tell me the difference between .info and .com.All this is just a myth people have peddled all this while without testing out.Just get your promotion effort right and you are on.
