What's the difference between a high traffic site and a high PR site?

Hi,

I have seen some sites claim to get 10,000+ unique visitors a month with no PR. Then other high PR sites with quite low traffic.

Is it simply down to age? I thought one had to come with the other?

PR doesn't mean that you will get any traffic. it looks good on the toolbar but thats about it. back in those days, PR meant high ranking and high traffic but these days, PR is a very minor factor in google algorithm that hardly has any impact on your ranking. thats why you see high PR site with no or little traffic and high traffic site with low PR.

Well said page rank is just googles way of judging the importance of a website, or blog in Googles eyes. Number of sites linking to you etc... It helps a little but does not have a huge impact in the serps.

high PR is based on backlinks from other PR pages which may or may not be related to your niche. as long as you have backlinks form PR sites, your own site PR will increase. no need to use any anchor text either to pass the PR juice.

to rank higher and to get traffic, you will need relevant quality backlinks. whether it is form PR pages or not. anchor text backlink is a must for higher ranking

The link popularity of a site is measured using Google’s most important web ranking metrics known as Pagerank. Pagerank is the Google’s way of measuring how popular a website is; based on linkage data.

Higher quality backlinks and the amount of them translate into a high Pagerank. In case you want to delve deeper into mathematical understanding (not needed really), here is the formula

      PR (A) = (1-d) + d (......) to PR (A) = PR (A) + (1-d) + d (......)

      It means

A page's PageRank = 0.15 + 0.85 * (a "share" of the PageRank of every page that links to it)

  • Umm... PR is more of how much of a share your site has in the search engines, and how much of PR other sites are sending you...

For example, if you have links from a lot of PR 5 sites, the power of link juice from those sites can help raise your PR to 4 or 5 as well. And if you have a lot of pages on your site, it can help to improve your PR as well as each page you create on your site helps to create a certain amount of PR automatically, which can be redirected to your homepage..

However, just because you have those factors doesn't mean that you are going to get a lot of traffic. You may have backlinks from 100 PR 8 sites in obscure places and no one ever clicks through to go to your site, so you have a high PR but no traffic.

Normally, having high PR can lead to improvements in search engine rankings, as they are related, but not necessarily. If you want to measure the traffic coming to a site, then a better indicator would be the Alexa Rank.

Wrong idea. PR actually depends on your inbound links. If you have several PR 6
inbound links for your website then your website will be PR 6 after 4 months or so. On the other hand, traffic is very important. I am not saying that PR is not important. Both PR and traffic are important if you want to earn huge revenue from your website. If your website is PR 4 and monthly traffic is say 10000 then you can earn $200 at least per month from advertising.
