That's a great question about VIDEO guest posts. I would approach these same blogs and offer to do a video guest post. I'm betting a lot of them will say yes as long as it's really good content.

Oh yeah, lots of the About.com sections accept guest posts. Also, keep in mind that if they don't have a specific page for submitting your content a lot of them still accept submissions. You would just need to contact the guide of that section via email.

I'm obviously not Kim, but here's how I would go about it...

Look for actively updated blogs with a mix of authors within your chosen niche. Depending on the niche, this might yield a very long list.

The next step would be to try and weed out the autoblogs that simply scrape content from various feeds.

Next, contact the admin or blog owner and ask if they would like some unique content from you in the form of a guest post.

Keep a list of sites that say yes, and send them content in the form of original (not just x% unique via a spinner) content on a regular basis.

Now I know some SEO type will jump in with "make sure it's a do-follow link"...

First off, the 'do-follow' tag has no meaning. If there's not a 'no-follow', then by definition, the link is do-follow.

More importantly (by a large margin) is the idea that you are not guest-posting on someone else's blog for backlinks. If that's you only objective, you might as well spin some generic keyword pablum and spew it to 1,000 article directories. You want to guest-post some of your best original stuff for the purpose of converting some of that blog's readers into your readers, too. You want new fans, not links. Do things right, and you can have both...

Indeed publishing a guest post on an established IM blog is a very effective way for driving traffic to ones website.

I would suggest starting with the more popular blogs - where you'll get more results for your efforts.

Also, you'll want to start developing a relationship with the blog owner before you submit your guest post. Comment and interact on their blog for a couple weeks with value-added insightful comments. Also, it always helps to send them a personalized email first as well. That way, you'll be well-accepted whenever you do approach the blog owner about doing a guest post. But make sure it's honest and sincere.

And to help ensure that your blog post gets accepted make sure you give them your very best work - don't hold anything back

You'll be well rewarded!
