I called it "guest posting" - guest blogging is a better term though so I'll change it.

Thanks for the great list! Most people starting out need free options and here is one I came accross the other day. This is the FREE option I chose. You get to submit once a day to 25 sites automatically using the site software. The paid option is $47 one time payment and that gives you the ability to submit to 100 sites three times a day. All you have to do is sign up with an email/password and off you go.

LOL some people just go hard.

For the CSS Galleries, all you do is submit your site and it gets reviewed for approval. Basically, they are creating a large directory of different site designs. if your site gets included, you get a link from your site's page and your design might also get picked up and displayed elsewhere.

I'm actually just getting into this now. I've heard that WordPress and more standardized sites don't usually get accepted which makes sense from their perspective. I have a WP site so I'm not really expecting big results, I'll have to wait and see.

Good list, For anyone new to SEO, I think you should just focus on that list for your websites first 3 months or so, look into other methods of backlinking after if you need more help to get #1

i noticed you added yahoo answers. is YA a worthwhile venture or are the backlinks you can get from them more qauntity than quality?

Generally people target YA for physical visits and long tail KW traffic, rather than "link juice". You need to develop your account a bit before you can post clickable links. The network is RIFE with spam, which gets annoying after a while.

Well said, another way of looking at it is sort of like building small assets. Every time you write and distribute an article online, it's going to be around sending you traffic for a long time. Likewise, your answers will show up inside of yahoo and on occasion in the SERPs for long tail keywords and they might be there for a long time as well. Many times I've clicked on yahoo answers links in the SERPs that are years old. They can add up.

Useless, the actual page where you will have backlink will have pagerank as 0 so the above mentioned PR's is not what you get.
