What is Link Pyramid?

Very legitimate and very powerful. All it means is basically sending backlinks to your backlinks.

Most pyramid services you see offer a couple hundred high-PR forum profile links, with a couple thousand low-PR forum profile links pointing to those.

Just as John said, it is a very powerful backlink strategy. Basically it consists of building one layer of high quality links to your site (high PR links, Web 2.0s., etc.) and then building a second layer of links to these first layer links. The second layer usually consists of a very large quantity of links in comparison to the first layer. In the end Google will see a small amount of powerful links (your layer 1), but not see the large quantity of layer 2 links. For this reason, many people who do no want spammy backlinks or a large amount of backlinks, such as for new sites, use this method. But this method is great for all sites, not just new ones.

The same way you build any other links...

There's no "pyramid software". Just do it yourself manually. Or look up linkbuilding software or outsourcers to create the same structure.

Here's an example..
Build 100 forum profiles, then backlink to those 100 links with 2000 links.
Or build 5 web 2.0 sites that point to your money site.. then build 2000 forum profiles/comments/bookmarks/anything to those 5 web 2.0 sites.

I agree to John. Link Pyramid is already proven in getting good results in SE. Many internet marketers use this kind of strategy to build there backlinks.

You have to look at through the Google robots' eyes. There's you (your money site) and the popular kids (layer one) like you. But why does Google think that's cool? Because LOTS and LOTS of people like the popular kids (that's the second layer).

if there 100 ALREADY popular sites = layer 1
why I just cannot do backlinks from that 100 sites to my?

google will see popular sites are referencing to my, and weight of my site will be increased

right?

Hi derekad,

You ask a good question. And yes, you are correct in your assumption. You do not need to create a second layer if your 1st layer of backlinks are created on pages that already have real web traffic. Keep in mind that it is the "page" that needs to be popular, not just the website.

Ideally, you try to get backlinks from pages that are already being promoted by other people. In doing so you multiply your own efforts. However, if you are creating backlinks on pages that no one else is promoting then those backlinks will be relatively ineffective unless you, or someone else, takes on the job of promoting traffic to them.

The pyramid structure of your backlinks is the result of you promotional efforts placed on your 1st layer of backlinks resulting in your second layer, and so on. But, you are correct, the 2nd layer is totally unnecessary if your 1st layer is placed on popular pages.

Hi derekad,

PR is not assigned to sites, so site x has no PR. PR is assigned to individual URLs or pages. Backlinks only pass link juice from the page they are placed on based on the PR of that page and weighted by the trust of that page. So in you question the benefit is limited to the PR and trust of page a1,a2.

You Need Buffer layers, but be aware you need to be somewhat more covert now after Panda, we have done extensive testing, and see clear value in putting far more depth into building the system.

I would suggest not using Web 2.0 sites as your layer 1, but instead use your own domains, make sure all normal precautions are taken.

But the bottomline is how much effort do you want to put into the site, you can go all out or just do the bare needs.

Regardless, I personally see the Panda update as a Godsend

The basis of most link building strategies is making backlinks for a purpose domain and then making backlinks for these backlinks which point to the main domain and continuing it. Actually the method works good and its a powerful method and i suggest you to try it if you can.
