Okay, so check out the thread at BHW. Apparently one of the members did a scrapebox blast to their competitor and took his site down by doing a million link blast with anchor text relating to porn sites. So the victim went from #1 to not being indexed. Code: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/310511-doing-one-million-scrapebox-blast-directly-competitors-website.html |

People believe that you can't effect your competition... you definitely can, but it would be easier to get your own site ranked higher. If you know your competitors IP address, you could do a lot of destructive things. There are many things that can be done.

yeah I have heard some of them over there on that forum are using xrumer to do this too. Only works on newer sites as most established sites with domain trust can withstand a large blast.

It will be interesting to see if and when the site comes back - if it does indeed come back stronger in a few months, whoever sent all those links will be kicking themselves! |

Interesting though - because EVERY SINGLE time someone asks about spammy links and whether they can negatively affect your site, someone ALWAYS comes along and says, "Well, if that were true people would be spamming their competitors". Yet how many people have really tried it? Not many, I don't expect, but if some enterprising black-hatters start doing it and reporting "positive" results we could get into a whole new "SEO" ball game of backlink spamming wars. My feeling is as others have mentioned (and people never cease to remind us) - that Google cannot penalise sites with spammy backlinks in any permanent sense, as it is impossible to distinguish a competitor attack from spammy promotional methods. However, even if there was a penalty of some sort up until now, Google now have a new headache if people start attacking competitors in any number... |
