I get a lot of spam comments on my sites, as I am sure many of you do too. However, I probably treat them differently than most webmasters. I do not just delete them right away. I look through them. All of them. Some I use to identify new niches that will be easy to break into. I don't have to waste my time trying to brainstorm new niches. Other IM'ers have already done the work for me. If it is something I think might be worthwhile, I can dig into the niche and keywords a little more to confirm that. In many cases, I do not even need to track down an affiliate product to promote. That's already done too. Here's the idea that is really making me some money though. I track down any comments that lead to a brick and mortar offline business. In most cases, this company is not doing their own SEO work. They hired someone to do it. A great example would be one comment I found on Friday that led me to a real estate agent. I called him to ask him to stop leaving spammy, and in this case obviously inflammatory, comments on my site. He, as I suspected, knew nothing about it. He had hired someone to handle his online marketing. Exactly what I was looking for. We had a nice long conversation about how these kind of spammy tactics can actually hurt his business and its reputation rather than help it. Long story short, I faxed over a contract to him that afternoon and had it back before the end of the day. Even though I charge four times as much as his other "online guy", he was more than happy to dump him and sign on with me. This is now the third client in the last 4 months I have picked up this way. If you are doing SEO work for clients, you might want to think twice before doing that next Scrapebox blast. You might be hitting one of my sites. |

What a rude reply Kaneinsurance. I thought it was an interesting idea. Most marketers never even look offline.

Perhaps this is valuable for SEO businesses, as you say, but it might be helpful to others , if you just twist it a little

Hey Mike, Nice post. I don't go looking for new clients but I what you've said is something that a lot of newbies to offline marketing would benefit from. It's also a decent way to get new niche ideas that I've been using for many years, so that side of it definitely has value. The main thing to remember is that just because some spammer is doing it - doesn't mean it works. There are a LOT of people using blasting tools that are just desperately blasting out stuff and not actually making money doing it, but watching them and using your brain can bridge that gap nicely. Thanks for caring - and sharing. Andy |

![]() I think he is STILL under the impression that this forum is only for those doing MFAs and Affiliate landing pages. so you should twist everything so it is spoon feedable to those who just do that. | |

Great method as always Mike, I really should keep a closer eye on the spam comments I get. Spam comments are too over rated and more people need to realise that they don't work half as well as quality backlinks

I do the exact same thing. Anyone that's doing scrapebox blasts to a client's sites needs to GTFO of the service-side of SEO because you're the ****heads giving us a terrible rep. |

how would this tactic benefit you if I used blog spam commenting as a form of suppressing bad review sites for my name? HA HA jokes on you!

Nice idea - I have on occasion contacted offline companies to let them know what their "SEO contractor" is doing to their reputation. As you say, they usually have no clue! Another thing you can do is look the backlinks of companies that are on Google page TWO and find ones where they have a really shoddy backlink profile - spam comments, profile links etc. Then you can contact them and explain WHY they are still on page two, and how you can help them |
