Default 50% decrease in CTR with Adsense??

How come my Adsense CTR once in a while drops by 50% (from the low teens to low single digits) from one day to the next day? My site is gets the same amount of hits from about the same keywords, but the ctr has totally dropped. I have not changed anything on the site. CPC is still the same, but CTR is half now which really affects earnings. Is it just the nature of Adsense and crap shoot of who comes to your site to click? I mean I would say a deviation of +/- 15-20% is OK, but almost half is not acceptable. Do you guys experience similar days on your sites??

It depends on how statistically relevant your numbers are.

If your site gets 100.000 visitors a day and let's say 2000 Adsense clicks and it drops to 1000, it's certainly something to think about.

If you just get 50 clicks a day and it's suddenly only 25, it's a normal deviation since the smaller the total number, the bigger the daily ups and downs....but it should even out if you watch your monthly stats.

I definitely experience similar peaks and valleys as you describe. If you are examining your CTR every single day, you are bound to experience some disappointing days.

My recommendation would be to experiment over time to increase your average CTR and not worry so much about the volatility.

I just had a major drop in my normally high CTR and as a result money in my pocket. Decide to visit one of the sites in my bag of adsense sights, which is a juicing recipes blog... My largest adsense block was advertising the new Grand Theft Auto game for xbox 360!! WTF? So at least I know why it gets wonky from time to time.
