I am using Duplicate Content Tool to check for duplicate pages on my site. I realized that Standard/ Smart/ Total Text Similarity is always < 65% (which is good enough?)

"Total HTML Similarity" is always about 95% or more. (I am using wordpress). I am wondering how I can reduce this number.

I remember reading at SEOmoz | YouMoz - A User Generated Search Industry Blog

Here at SEOmoz, our PRO platform uses a 95% threshold to judge duplicate content. This means if 95% of all the code on your page matches another page, then it's flagged as a duplicate. To check your own ratios, try this nifty duplicate content tool.

Is it important to reduce total HTML similarity? What is the most efficient way for me to do so?

Copyscape and Plagium are good.

I don't agree with the idea that the code of the page is duplicate and destroy rankings, how they said.

  I am just fixing a site that was affected by Panda. Trying to be on the safe side. However I realized that for "Category" pages, the HTML similarity is almost at 100%. Hence I am (unnecessarily?) concerned.
  
  Perhaps, I should also ask Yukon also on this because category pages are a key component of his strategy to build silo pages.

Copyscape is the best website for checking duplicate content. If your content consists with any duplicate content you can find the exact place where it duplicates.

  its true copyscape is best tool to check duplicate content but you can also check duplicacy by putting your content in double quotes "" and check in google. :

Copyscape gets my vote. You could also copy-paste some lines and Google it within"some lines" to check the duplicate content.

Been using copyscape and dustball plagiarism checker. Also, always use 2-3 plagiarism checker for assurance.

We use Copyscape™ with on all of our orders. There are other options, but Copyscape™ is the industry standard.

Although there are no special and perfect tools to check the exact duplicate contents in HTML data but still your can reply upon the copyscape.

If your doing SEO for Google, anything besides Google SERPs for checking duplicate content is worthless.

That's like going to "Burger King" & asking what's on a "Big Mac".

I don't know what you are using for checking duplicate contents and what is the problem you think that can not satisfy you, For long days I have been using copyscape without any problem. Why no tools seem best for you?

moSEO hit the nail on the head.

Copy and past sections of text from the content you wish to check and paste it into the Google search bar, then click search.

It will very quickly become apparent if you are dealing with copied or heavily plagiarised content. I would suggest that this method beats copyscape, unfortunately you have to do it manually.

It's good when you know the source of the duplicate content but according to me Copyscape is the best Tool on the Internet. Other tools are not good enough to check the originality of the content on such a wide scale.

After the Google updates, I would advise everyone to use copyscape as the Big G loves unique content. I've ordered written articles before from a few sources, made the payment and added them onto my sites. Later on I discovered by checking on copyscape that the articles were not entirely unique. So becareful folks!!!

If it's for SEO why would you care about anything other than what Google SERPs returns?

Check the SERPs for a random sentence/text on the page.

Example:

"check for duplicate pages on my site. I realized that Standard"
