SEO (search engine optimization) is a great way to get lots of free traffic from the major search engines. Many people tend to overlook search engine marketing because they feel that it's hard to do and hard to understand. But if you know how search engines work and how to rank your website properly, you can have a successful business that gets you sales on a daily basis.

To get started with SEO, you will want to do some keyword research. This is necessary because this is how you will find people who are looking for something in particular when it comes to your website and products. You don't want to go after the highly competitive keywords, because there's just too much competition there. Instead, seek out low competition keywords that you can easily rank high for.

The easiest way to do this kind of keyword research is with a keyword tool. And in fact, Google offers a free keyword tool for you to use to do your keyword research. You can even export all of the keywords into a Microsoft Excel file, and remove or edit keywords as you see fit.

Some concepts you will want to learn about are: page rank, keyword density, keyword stuffing, meta tags, on-page SEO and off-page SEO, and "index". All of these keywords play an important role in helping you to rank high for some particular keywords. These terms aren't hard to understand... all you have to do is use them to get the desirable results that you're looking for.

So to have search engine marketing success, you will want to do your homework on how search engines work, and how to get them to rank your websites high. One thing that you can start with is getting alot of backlinks to your website. The more backlinks you get, the more likely the chances are that you will rank high for a particular keyword tool.

Now some people do all kinds of things to get backlinks to their website. Some people use article marketing software to blast their articles on 200+ article directories (that get little to no traffic), and pick up some weak backlinks this way. Some people do article marketing manually and get alot of backlinks (and traffic) just by using the top 5 article directories on the internet.

Another way to get backlinks is to contact website owners who sell to a similar customer base as you do, and ask if they would like to exchange links with you. This is known as a "2-way" backlink, and it isn't as good as a "1-way" backlink. 1-way backlinks suggests that someone linked to your website because they felt like your information was really good.

Another way to get backlinks is to submit your website to the website directories. There are a ton of them out there, and some require payment to have your link listed on their website. But you don't need to pay for links. Simply stick with the free website directories, and you will be good to go.

Use these search engine marketing tips to rank your website high for a keyword that you are trying to rank high for.

Good luck with using these tips to improve your online business today.
