A Few Basic Web Page Design Tips For Your Home Business
Here, again, are a few basic web page design tips for your home business website. I’ve written about these in my APC blog post, Tips For Successful Home Based Business Websites, and as usual, decided to recap them here for the convenience of Warrior Forum members and visitors.
As noted there, I am always open to learning new ways or better ways to present my website and perform my marketing duties, and I like to share ideas I come across.
I realize that not every idea is going to work for everybody the same way. But the concept behind brainstorming and sharing information is that you can pick and choose the ideas that appeal most to you. If nothing else, perhaps you will be inspired by something you have read.
1. The first of these web page design tips has to do with your own clarity of purpose and the focus of your website. In order for your site to do its job in catching the visitor’s eye, keeping the person there longer, and motivating them to sign up for something or make a purchase, you have to know exactly what it is you want to achieve with your site.
Determine your niche and your marketing focus and then design your home page to clearly highlight that focus the very instant your visitor lands there. The headlines you use, the text and content, the graphics and the opt-in forms must all lead your visitor in one direction. But keep it as simple as possible. Don’t make the visitor have to guess what your site is all about, or have to hunt to find what they came there looking for.
2. The next web page tip has to do with the pricing for your products or main features, and I will admit that this is a personal peeve of mine. People want to know how much it is going to cost.
I realize that one technique of marketing is to keep leading the prospect on with exciting details about the product so you take their mind off the price and convince them of the value before you hit them with the price. But the way I look at it is, if your product has true value, and if you have properly qualified your prospect before they even landed on the page, then you have nothing to fear about being upfront and honest about the price. Don’t be sneaky about it.
3. Another page design tip is to include convenient navigation menus or tabs so your visitors can always find their way around your site. Make sure the information on a page matches with the title on the tab that directed the person there.
Some web pages have a navigation menu at the top of the page and at the bottom; or on the side and on the bottom. In some cases, the top and bottom menus are the same. In other cases, a different format entirely is used for each one to give the page some variety. Look around at other websites for ideas that appeal to you, then check your web page editing features to see what choices are available.
4. Place informative articles and content that has real value to visitors high on the page and make it more obvious than the advertisements. Human visitors AND search bots will both love you more for doing it. And referring back to Tip #1, be sure that the content that the visitor first sees is highly relevant to the theme or niche of your site. Give them exactly what they expect to see the moment they land on the page.
You may or may not like or need these four suggested web page design tips, but hopefully something here will either enlighten you, encourage you or inspire you to look a little further into your own page design.
