How I Use Permission Based Email Marketing

How I Use Permission Based Email Marketing
There are many online businesses that do not use permission based email marketing and in my opinion, they give Internet Marketers a bad name.
I’m talking about businesses who get email lists any which way they can and then blast unwanted messages to the recipients. There are also less-than-reputable services that promise to deliver your messages to “targeted” and “willing” recipients, but in reality they have acquired their email lists through questionable methods and then blast unwanted messages to unwilling recipients.
I am sure there are reputable services that use legitimate lists and email only to willing recipients. I have no issue with those services. It’s just the ones that use disrespectful methods that bug me. (Chances are you get more than your share in your daily mail, too.)
Personally, I have always used permission based email marketing using a reputable autoresponder service. Here is one of the ways I do it:
– First, I develop a series of articles for the particular niche that I want to promote. Within each article, or at the end of the article, I include a note or a brief promo for a product or service related to the niche being promoted.
– Next, I create a campaign in my autoresponder and I load the articles into that campaign.
– Then I set the delivery intervals for the articles: they might be daily, every few days, once a week or whatever may be suitable to the niche being promoted and for the intended audience.
– Once that is done, I create a suitable sign-up form or opt-in form to be placed on my website or my landing pages or wherever I am promoting the selected niche.
Of course, certain code in the forms links them to the corresponding campaign in my autoresponder service. The service that I use makes this easy to do. The service even provides pre-formatted forms if you don’t have your own, or don’t have the means to create your own.
– After I have all of this set up and ready to go, I then begin promoting the niche using all of the usual marketing methods. I point visitors to the website, or the landing page, or directly to the corresponding opt-in form.
Now, here is where the “permission based” part of my email marketing comes into play.
– My forms typically ask only for the subscriber’s name and email address. When they submit the form, they immediately receive an email asking them to CONFIRM their desire to subscribe. Once they click the confirmation link, they immediately receive the first message in the newsletter series.
– My first messages usually include a welcome message, links to bonuses I may have offered as sign-up incentives, and the first article in the series. After the first message, they receive the next messages at the prescribed intervals.
I very much like this confirmation process. It makes certain the recipients want to receive my messages and know what the messages are all about. It also guards against some prankster submitting someone else’s email without their permission. If someone receives the confirmation request email but knows they did not sign up for the thing, they will not click the confirmation link and will not receive any further (unwanted) messages from me.
I consider the process to be honorable and respectful and it is also a great way to make sure your subscribers are truly targeted as being interested.
I fully recommend permission based email marketing and if you are interested in knowing the name of the service I use, please read my APC blog post, Launch Your Email Marketing Newsletter, Earn A Credit.
