If you've looked into copywriting at all, I'm sure you've seen copywriting defined as "salesmanship in print". Now that's a valid definition, but I prefer my simpler one: writing to sell.

Anytime you write a piece where the entire purpose of the writing is to encourage someone to buy, whether they're to buy a product or buy onto your mailing list, or buy into whatever you want them to buy into (like pharmaceutical companies might want you to "buy into" flu season) that's copywriting.

- web page copy/sales copy is copywriting
- email is copywriting
- signature files contain copywriting
- adwords ads contain copywriting
- business cards contain copywriting
- postcards, brochures, banner ads

...all of these can contain copywriting.

You've probably already written a lot of copy, you just may not have known that was what you were writing.

From time to time, I'll be posting various articles and even some interviews here in the copywriting section of this blog, so if you are interested in learning more about copywriting, come on back!

I'll be glad to see you! :-)
