| Hi. I commend you for wanting to learn. If you really want to be a writer it might be wise to always behave as such. In other words, when you write anything from a sales piece to a shopping list, always make it as good as it can possibly can be. That includes what you write here and everywhere else. You can start training your mind for excellence by using capital letters where appropriate as well as the proper punctuation. If you don’t know what that should be, get a word processing program that has grammar and spell checker built in. Microsoft Word is a good one. I think the free Open Office software is good as well. Do a search on Open Office and you can download a ton of great software that will help you. Once you have the software write everything in that program and paste it to where it needs to go. What I'm saying is start to create good writing habits. Every time you write something imagine it's for a critical client and do your best to get it right. Another thing you're going to want to do is read as much as you can and write every chance you get. Keep a journal where you record your thoughts and the stuff you do everyday. That will help get you into the flow of writing. Good Luck! |

Doesn't mean they have to develop the skill to the point of being a professional copywriter who is able to command thousands of dollars for their expertise. Just being able to write an above average to good marketing piece will give them a major competitive advantage in their niche. Basic copywriting skills can help a business owner take an existing ad that is losing money... rewrite it... and make it a profitable ad instead. You can start with the thread that Malik suggested. If you really want a full-blown home study course, it will set you back probably $1K or more but there are a few really good ones. I'd recommend checking out John Carlton's Simple Writing System as it's designed to teach someone from the ground up on how to write sales copy. Best of luck, Mike | |

I'll let you in on a little trick I learned a while back. Now, it's time consuming, but it works. I grab a notebook and a pen, then I find some fantastic copy and write it down in my notebook word for word. Instead of watching TV, I'm writing. When you write things down, you retain the information better. From this I learn their writing style, phrases they use often, etc... I think it's a great way to learn. I started with Clayton Makepeace's site - http://www.makepeacetotalpackage.com You'll find some awesome copy there on all kinds of topics. I use that site as one of my learning tools. "Copy the best"...that's how I learned and continue to learn. |

Oh man, Hate to be a "weasel" but look up Gary Halbert. More free copywriting content there than a newbie's mind can take without an explosion. Did I mention it won't cost you a penny? Other than that... buy everything you have time to study and write every day. There's no shortcuts. |

Like you I figured this would be a very good skill to have as well. After doing much research I purchased John Carlton's Simple Writing System. Just getting into the course but so far very pleased with the product. He's also a disciple of Gary Halbert mentioned in the above post. Because I haven't reached 15 post yet (been mainly a lurker and learner) I'm not able to post a link But the website if your interested is simplewritingsystem dot com -Dave Statler |

| I've read the book. I'm not asking you, but telling you that the book is written like a sales letter and that's why you are hooked the way you are. Copywriters know how to keep their readers up to that time in the morning. That's my point. People have told me the same about my books. BTW, if you're interested I can send you the link to a quiz I created for this book to see if you grasped the concepts well. -Ray Edwards |

Writing personal blog will be a good start. Try to write your everyday blog and soon you will find out that you're a good writer. Then next, try to do some researcher. I am not a good copywriter but that's what I heard from my friends.
