  • What the...? crt? What the hell you on about?

    Ray, there's several ways:

1.) Find a coach. I believe several Warrior copywriters on here coach people. The one I know most is Raydal (others, apologies! )

    2.) Teach yourself. Check out:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/copywrit...ooks-ever.html

Also definitely check this out to learn a LOT: The Gary Halbert Letter

3.) Otherwise, go and work your way up an ad agency. I think this is what Mal (Copy Nazi) did and he's killing it now - although that was awhile back, and a lot of ad agencies aren't what they used to be. Still, ask Mal for advice on this - I'm not an expert, by any means.

    Hope this helps!

  • Ray,

    Do what Ben suggested -

If you've got the money, consider a coach or a mentor, make sure they will give you a lot of time. It's the fastest way to get good at copywriting.

Again if you've got the money buy a few good copywriting courses from the best copywriters, they're not shy on the costs. But they are fabulous investments.

However, before you spend a mint - find out if you really do want to get into the wonderful world of copywriting.

Read a variety of copywriting books from the link Ben posted. Most are around $20.00 and you'll learn a whole range of tactics and "how to" stuff.

Then pick up a few newspapers and magazines and deconstruct the Ads, is the headline good? Is the body copy compelling? Are the benefits sizzling? Is the offer irresistible? Is the call to action powerful?

Then rewrite the Ads with all the improvements you now know should be included.

This next tip is golden, but very few people actually do it.

Pick 5 acclaimed sales letters - choose a variety from top copywriters like, Gary Bencivenga, Clayton Makepeace, John Carlton, Gary Halbert or Dan Kennedy and rewrite them by hand (not by computer) - at least 20 times.

Yes it's agony on the wrists and fingers - but the miraculous thing is - it "wires" into your system the techniques they use.

If you're not sure what letters to choose - google the names and you're get a selection.

Or ask the copywriters here for their choices in the niches you would most like to write for.

Hopefully people will list an excellent selection for you.

I feel like a lot of learning copywriting is self taught, but it's also putting yourself around other copywriters. You have the ability to learn from each other. Good luck!

There are a lot of great copywriters in this forum. If you try to look around, you will see how they write. Just try to search around the forum, you'll come across some recommended books or courses about copywriting. Anyway, keep the faith and don't strop trying.

I'm not sure what kind of search you're doing if you're coming up spammy. First page of Google search results for "learn copywriting" includes pages from Bob Bly, John Carlton, and Copyblogger.

The other are correct though. Study, absorb, write, edit, repeat. Find a mentor if it's in your budget. Make peace with the fact that this is a process that does not often happen quickly.

    Seriously.

How do you become a copywriter?

How do you become a doctor? How do you become a lawyer?

You study everything you can get your hands on. Analysis it. Study it. Study it again. Test it.

Think about the language that your audience would use as you are writing your copy. Use a friendly and conversational tone (if it is appropriate for your audience; writing for a corporate exec. would be more formal in tone). Write to one person, as if you were talking to a friend. Leave our I, We, and Me and use You, Your, and You're.

I have actually found in my communications with business and corporations that the less formal my tone is the greater the response. An executive get formal biz speak stuff all day from people, but in being a little less formal and more friendly you stand out. At the end of the day a "corporation" doesn't buy anything, it's a person who does it.

I made the mistake of being very formal in my communications with customers and potential customers, clients etc for a long time. I don't even want to think about how much money it cost me.

According to me, asking a good and reliable friend, who has been doing copywriting for a long time, should help you a lot in this field. if you do not know of any such friend, then the best alternative is searching in Google for some reliable online course for copywriting.
