For you idiots who think email marketing is dead...[proof it's NOT!]

VC firms are buying niche email newsletter based sites for $125,000,000.00, which I know isn't much for most you copywriters on this forum because you too have developed lists over 1,700,000 active readers.

But for the rest of US under 1.7 million active readers, this link might be useful for you :

Exactly, that must be some good practice
I got a lightbox popup from Insidehook on my first visit in addition to their above the fold form.

  • While we are thinking big...

I don't know Rob Lowe's financial arrangement with InsideHook LA, but you would be surprised how affordable celebrities are for appearances, speeches and sponsorship deals.

I don't have first hand experience but have heard a lot of the numbers. Kim Kardashian, not so affordable. Some lesser known TV stars, very affordable.

If you have a large site, it might be worth looking into.

Sir Gary talked about this here:

      Joe,

      thx for the reply.

Perry Marshall sent out a newsletter this March that featured a problem I'm having right now, and one of the solutions he mentioned was to start thinking a big. Really big.

What would it take to hook a HUGE whale?

It's funny because the warrior forum attract dreamers, but when it comes to the "how to" part, many have no clue, so they buy another $7 product to fill that need of hope (or delusion).

      But, why not think big?

Why not think about it would take to rake in a $125,000,000.00

I've met guys like them; they ain't smarter than you or me.

But, they do think big. They have connections. They make stuff happen.

And most importantly, they KNOW what it takes to be successful.

And even then, their "conversion rate" is about 10%.

Basic direct marketing principles + scale + solid revenue model + solid production model = a crap load of money

I've got my shovel, and I'm ready to load up!

How not to influence: call people who disagree with you an "idiot" before presenting your argument.

      LOL

    Alex,

You probably won't believe this, but its true:

There was once a guy who who a hat (maybe it was a shirt) to seminars that said, "clients suck" AND he would call his loyal paying clients shitweasels.

    He did okay, I think.

Now, as a general statement I agree with you. However, when dealing with high people you must provide them the insight you know a hell of a lot more than them in this specific situation.

That they are an idiot when it comes to "x".

    Influence is a wierd thing.

Persona (brand) trumps your logical point.

    Adam.

If you seriously think your thread headline is anywhere close to Gary Halbert's shtick, you're sadly mistaken. The comparison is absurd.

That said, all rules are made to be broken.

A guy who called himself the "Rich Jerk" made a fortune being ignorant and insulting to his prospects.

You could adopt the same technique. Next time you send out your newsletter, tell your readers, "You're an idiot if you think you can do your accounting better than me."

I don't recommend it, but who knows... you could be that 1 in 1,000 exception.

        Alex,

        No bs, thank you!

I never thought about that, but I will try that as a headline using adwords traffic.

        see if it works.

I'll let you know if it works.

        I'll also try "dummies"

the "dummies" brand of "how to" books have done well.

        it's worth testing.

The Dummies brand was/is meant to be clever. Not insulting.

Notice it doesn't say "You're a dummy" or "For you dummies who...".

idiot, dummy..... different people respond differently.

            again, worth testing.

although, idiot is a stronger word that may offend.

I can't see how e-mail marketing is ever going to be dead. Unless some new technology supplants it.

It's just no longer a matter of sitting down in your underwear and making a profit in a few days. Requires actual work. And a real business.

This is an interesting article at a time when many newspapers are
crying poor (because subscribers of their print newspapers are
dying off...most people who subscribe to a print newspaper are
    over 50 years old).

Getting newspaper readers to read their newspaper online is a really
obvious move if newspapers want to survive.

If they want to get really clever they can segment their email lists too...
many people are only interested in a particular section of the newspaper.

Having more targeted lists makes it more profitable to market to those
    lists.

On a related topic online classified ads are becoming the first place many
people go to when they're looking to buy something instead of newspaper
    classified ads.

The marketplace has changed radically in the last 10 years and it will
    most likely keep changing.

    Kindest regards,
    Andrew Cavanagh
