How to build a portfolio when you're starting out? Clients won't hire you without one. Should I just write a few samples about random products/services ?

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. It's my second go at copywriting and I'm actually charging for this.

My first question, did you get paid for this work? And then,
what have you been doing in the last 3 months? What other writing have you done? If you were paid, there is your first sample.

Have you tried to write on spec for anyone? How about the old, find a ClickBank product and write on it, offer it for a test, to someone who isn't selling much?

Have you worked with anyone and if not, then how are you learning?

Let's go three months ahead, to October 13th, what will your effort look like? How much writing have you done?

This sub-forum is chock full of ideas because your question has been asked and answered 101 times already. You have to write in order to get work into a portfolio, I suggest you spend an hour or two using the search feature here and looking for the answers already posted.

Please inform me (us) on what you have been doing regarding Copywriting for the last 3 months, since your first paid gig, OK?

I've written a fair bit actually.

      Two quasi-copy articles

Just one of several articles I wrote for a men's video game magazine:

If the osteo article had links to practitioners, or had some way of linking to paid advertising or capturing an interest, then it might be quasi copy.

And, why not a link to Amazon so one can buy black cumin, for example?

I asked about what COPYWRITING you have done. No doubt you can write, all the articles are well written, good citations and are informative.

BUT, hardly can be used in a portfolio for demonstrating your sales ability with the written word.

I just pointed out, 3 months have gone by, what will the next 3 months look like? And what results did you find from searching the forum for answers to this question, contains tons of ways to build a portfolio, choose one which best suits you.

Just go on any well-known article site and take a look at some of the samples they have. Write a few articles on similar subjects. You shouldn't need more than 3 to 5 go get started.

The People say you get what you pay for, and sometimes, that’s true. But it’s not true that you need to spend your life savings on The good website.
