Actually Zaccks, the only skills you need to focus on RIGHT NOW are honing in upon WHY you're hiring a copywriter.

The more specificity you bring to the table, the better results you'll get when searching for the copywriter who best suits YOUR needs.

    That means...

...You need to write down your project specifications, who your target market is, why your product or service is THE solution people are looking for and your EXACT budget.

You also need to communicate what you expect in-return for your budget.

    As far as skills go:

    Look in the copywriting directory.

Read some of the timeless threads posted here and click on people's signature to learn more about WHO THEY ARE and WHAT they bring to the table!

Please (and this goes for anyone else with the same question)... take the time to OBSERVE all the fantastic resources here for you.

You'll achieve so much more as an entrepreneur if you can bring your BEST SELF to the table before making a post looking for a copywriter - here on this forum... or ANYWHERE!

P.S. Always and ONLY look at your budget as an investment. Typically, the more you can invest, the better your results will be. This isn't a rule, but you're likely to spend way more going from one cheap copywriter to the next - until you pony up and play a bigger game!

Actually, that is what "copywriters" do...write sales letters or pages.

Ghostwriters normally are not professional copywriters.

To save yourself a lot of headaches... I would get the terminology straight before hiring anyone.

There are people who write "copy" such as articles and web content and then there are "copywriters" who write sales letters to entice someone to purchase a product.

Not every copywriter can do a very good sales copy. What I would suggest since you are looking to outsource is that you hire a professional copywriter since that will pay for itself many times over. However, I do realise that copywriters are expensive and therefore I suggest an alternate route.

What you can do is give the copywriter the exact structure of your sales letter the way you want it. How do you find the right structure? Find the best converting offer for you niche on clickbank.com and then take a look at the screenshot.

Make a draft of what the successful guy/gal is doing that is converting well.

    Headline,
    Subhead,
    Ridiculous Claim #1,
    Backup the Claim,
    Testimonials,
    Call to action

this is just a small list that could be there but I hope you get the point. Once you do that all you need to do really is give it to the ghostwriter and let him/her work his/her magic with words but strictly sticking to a proven high converting formula.

This way you save money and you get a high converting copy too.

Just don't let the ghostwriter rip the sales page off because that is illegal!

      Worst advice ever.

You really think some "hack" is going to be able to successfully swipe a proven formula and make it work for them?

What about the fact your product/positioning should be completely different to the established market leader?

C'mon guys... common sense goes a long way.

Always looking for badass direct-response copywriters. PM me if we don't know each other and you're looking for work.

      • Yes--any copywriter can write a sales page. But only a direct response copywriter can make it convert readers into buyers.

        I'm a direct response copywriter. I'm also a ghostwriter. You don't want a ghostwriter.

You'll find a lot of direct response copywriters around this forum and most know what they're doing.

        My site is ScottMartinCopywriter.com

I encourage you to check out some copywriters and especially check their results.

        Good luck!

  • Any professional copywriter is able to write a sales page. Maybe your bigger problem will be on how to identify right one.

You should ask for previous samples. See the effectiveness of Headline and Lead.

Or else see if you can get a spec done with a headline and lead for your product, that would be awesome.

Head and Lead is more than 60% of an effective sales letter so just looking at these should be good to understand the effectiveness of the copywriter.

Ask if they have sales experience. Some copywriters are just writers who have never sold anything. They might write a good letter that reads well but that sells poorly. Sales ability is more important than writing ability.

Ask for proof/experience of their past work. It's really the only way to know.

You can always have them write a rough copy, see if it's what you want, and then decide from there if you want to hire them on.

As always, you get what you pay for usually.

I think I can help sum up this thread in two sentences:
Not all copywriters are created equal. If you want to see high conversions from a sales letter, you need to find an experienced copywriter.

    There it is
