      My direct mail letter for a high-end women's clothing company made 4-to-1...

      And an email I wrote for an industrial engineering supplier made $10,451 in an hour and 2 new clients out of 31 prospects (a 7% conversion rate), which could easily turn into $500,000 a month consumers in a very small and tightly controlled market. I know that because we've gotten 2 PO's in the last month, each worth that much from my sales funnel.

      But I'm still in the Shameless Whore stage, as John Carlton calls it.

  • I'm delighted to say that my Postcard campaign resulted in a top notch landscape gardening company being fully booked throughout the summer and autumn.

    Goodness knows what would happen if they ever wanted an interweb site.

    But there's no time for social networking if you're busy digging up embankments.

    And the only tweets they want are from the birds on the trees.

    I managed a launch last month (concept, themes, ideas) and also wrote the email & video script copy for it. Product was a stock trading software. Absolutely nothing to do with WF. $1997 product. Also a $997 upsell. Our goal was 200 units of the main product. One week special list signup process to get the right people on our list, and we got 2220 people after weaning down--which I worried was going to be too low; two week education process to warm them up, during which we got massive involvement & feedback like 400 Facebook comments on one video that can be used as testimonials for all time; one week sales period. Final tally: over $600,000 in revenue. Think about the conversion factor. And how qualified this list was.

    We opened on a Monday, hit the $500K mark by Wednesday. I'll bet his costs including me were $150K or less over the past year of development, so it was a tidy profit and by a few hours into the Monday night he was in the black.

    My client now has an evergreen, proven process he can use for the front end of his funnel.

    AND I got a quote from Jon Benson about an improvement I made to his upsell video sales letter template, which my client shared with him: "this DOES need to be in any upsell...nice copy...your message simply works."

    Has totally changed my client's life. And that's the business I like being in. Undercapitalized clients like you'll typically find on WF aren't worth it, and that's why I hardly ever talk about it. They cannot afford to do the things that need doing to succeed.

    Then you start getting those stupid "Hey man, I heard you did copywriting; can you send me a quote? I have a $500 budget and if u get good results maybe we can do more" messages. Talk is cheap. Numbers are what counts.

    And if you're a potential client, you have to find a writer who's comfortable with your market. There are only a few things I'll write about. I won't write about vitamins/health, beauty products, PUA, for example. I stick to business, finance, history, literature, food & wine, technical. A writer who is out of their depth, league or interest is going to fail you. Price is not the thing to be looking at; ROI is.
