I want to start dropshipping

Hello Warriorforum,

I've been doing 'Internet Marketing' on and off for quite some time now but have never taken it seriously, up until now.

I have some experience building webshops and ranking them by way of SEO. Luckily for me I live in the Netherlands where it's quite easy to reach the first page for a lot of keywords.

Now, I want to start dropshipping products and have a general idea of how I want to go about doing this.

My plan is just to walk into companies and tell them I have an offer that they can only make money on and briefly explain how products are bought and shipped to the client.

Is this something that could work, or should I change my plans?

I think it's an excellent way to get into e-commerce, and it's how I started as well. Doesn't really require much capital, unless companies have buy-ins (which may be a worthwhile investment). Just make sure you watch your finances carefully and focus on products that have sufficient margins.

Also, watch a lot of drop shippers run out of inventory and then you have to tell your customer. I started doing this with Ebay. I believed I used Doba.

I used to do this as well, but make sure that the products are not over saturated. I found that one of the companies had products that were getting sold by everyone and their dog. Be careful and make sure they have products that are demanded.

To simplify this entire process and find TONS of drop shippers in a short amount of time you should:

    1) google your niche
    2) find retail websites that do not have a physical location (check their about us page)
    3) look for a "brand" or "manufactures" section on their websites

9 out of 10 times these brand/manufacturers will be companies that drop ship.

    Good luck!

    Begroeting!

Sounds like a great idea to me. Like the comments above you don't want to be using a supplier that 100's of other dropshipper are using. If you can secure a deal with a manufacturer/distributor by walking in and talking to them then you will be far better off.

(I actually don't speak Nederlands but wish I could!)

    Try importing from China.

Check this out: Manufacturers, Suppliers, Exporters & Importers from the world's largest online B2B marketplace-Alibaba.com

You'll find more dropshippers than you could ever handle there.

Thanks a lot for all the input guys, I really appreciate it. My plan was to actually avoid manufacturers that were dropshipping already, as to avoid too much competition.

Now, something else I'd like some tips on is how to go about contacting companies. So far I have thought of two different methods.

      1. Calling the company and telling them "I have an offer your company can only win on, can I have five minutes of your time to explain it?" and making an appointment if the company is interested.

      2. Going to the local industrial and ask the same thing at the door.

Any input is still very much appreciated!

Getting suppliers who are not already dropshipping to begin doing so can be difficult, but if you can then it is very valuable. I've had this opportunity in the past but it only came about after becoming a valuable account to them (leverage) and then notifying them that we could not continue trading unless they did dropship.

Anyway I'd be happy to connect and chat further, I'll PM you my skype ID

Main thing I'd say is it's better to run out of stock and lose a few customers than over commit yourself to stock before you know you can move it reliably.

And keep in mind the import tax isn't always included in the price tag.

Couldn't agree more. You don't want money locked up in stock gathering dust.

When I used to work in retail sales they would sell old stock at cost or below because it was CHEAPER to cut their losses then continue holding it and paying interest. (This was a franchise retailer with millions of $$ in stock)

Even if you had the cash you have to look at the opportunity cost. You may have been able to spend on marketing instead where the end result would equal more profits even if the ship cost is higher.
